DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Player Salary Analysis: Workday Charity Open
One of the few positives to come out of this crazy year is how many new golf fans the tour has created. With golf being one of the only sports in action, many casual fans have taken the leap to fantasy golf and golf betting. DraftKings is offering yet another Millionaire Maker this week along with a number of single-entry tournaments (my personal favorite). They also have the $5 Drive the Green and the $555 Signature Hole. FanDuel has plenty of money up for grabs as well with $100,000 to first in both their $7.77 buy-in and their $555 buy-in. The goal of this article is to help you find the best site to play each golfer.

For the first time ever, the PGA Tour will hold back-to-back events at the same venue. Luckily, they are doing their best to make the tournaments unique. This week’s Workday Charity Open features a larger field and a different course setup. The rough won’t be nearly as thick, the greens are going to be slower, and the pin placements are expected to be easier. This should lead to lower scoring, especially if there isn’t a ton of wind in the forecast. Historically, Muirfield Village has been a second shot course where you have to score on the par fives and keep it together around the greens. The easier setup should benefit pure ball strikers, but it’s still important to look for good scramblers. If you like putting splits, the greens here are a mix of poa annua and bentgrass.
We not only have the best tools in the industry, but have an incredibly talented team of PGA experts. Here is a rundown of what premium members will have access to for the Workday Charity Open:

DraftKings and FanDuel Workday Charity Open Salary Analysis Table
In the table below, you will find Vegas odds, salaries, percentage salary cap columns, and odds percentage columns. The “DK & FD Cap %” columns show how much of the respective salary on each site each golfer costs. The “DK – FD %” column shows how much cheaper a golfer is on DraftKings compared to FanDuel. The “DK & FD Odds” columns take each golfer’s salary rank and compare it to their odds rank. The higher the percentage, the more value they provide on that specific site (relative to their outright odds).

DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Salary Analysis for the Workday Charity Open
Patrick Cantlay
DraftKings: $10,600 / FanDuel: $11,700
Cantlay is a tough fade this week because he checks all of the boxes. He’s not quite the lock that Bryson DeChambeau was a week ago, but he’s not nearly as expensive. Cantlay won here last season and finished T4 here in 2018. In his first event back from the break, he gained strokes off the tee, on approach, around the green, and with his putter. He ended up finishing in a tie for 11th at the Travelers Championship. He’s first in my stat model for the week, yet he’s the third most expensive golfer on both DraftKings and FanDuel. His safety and upside is arguably unmatched by anyone in this week’s field.
Gary Woodland
DraftKings: $8,300 / FanDuel: $9,900
Woodland missed the cut his last time out and has some red flags, but ultimately he’s just too cheap across the industry. In better form, he would be at least $1,000 more expensive on both DraftKings and FanDuel. I went back and looked at his strokes gained statistics over the last five years. During that stretch, he’s had five events where he has lost at least 2.2 strokes off the tee and three of those were in his three starts since the break. If he can get his driver figured out, he could easily find himself in contention at a course where he has four top 25 finishes.
Justin Thomas
FanDuel: $12,000
It’s not that Thomas is a bad play on DraftKings, but he’s much easier to fit into your lineups on FanDuel. I generally try to pair two stars together on FanDuel because the pricing is a little softer. As you can see in the table above, JT only takes up 20% of the cap on FanDuel compared to 22% of the cap on DraftKings. His history at Muirfield Village is spotty, but when he makes the cut he often finds himself in contention. Over the last five years here, he has three missed cuts and two top eight finishes. He should benefit from the weaker field and the lighter rough this week.
Billy Horschel
DraftKings: $7,500
Horschel has missed back-to-back cuts by one or two shots each, which is very unlike the consistent ball striker. The main concern has been his iron play (lost strokes on approach in three straight), but those were all elite fields and historically he’s been a solid iron player. He putts well on bentgrass and is one of the few golfers in this price range that has the ability to gain strokes in all four areas (off the tee, on approach, around the green, and on the green). He clearly likes Muirfield Village, as he’s posted three top 15 finishes here in his last five appearances.
