Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?

Notorious: This is a great week to employ a stars and scrubs approach. There are only 120 golfers in the field, which means a higher percentage of the field will make the cut. This is a very difficult course, which places an emphasis on finishing position over birdie-making. And finally, this is a weak field. There isn’t a huge gap in talent between the cheap golfers and the mid-range.

STLCardinals84: This is only the second year this tournament has been played at this course, and it will be the final year, with this event moving to Detroit starting next season. TPC Potomac is also no pushover, as the winning score in the 2017 edition was just seven under par. This course played as one of the most difficult on Tour a season ago. When you combine that with the weak field, this is going to be an ugly event to handicap from a DFS perspective.

futureoffantasy: Only hosting one time, but over the last five years this course boasted one of the highest rates of double bogeys or worse. With hazards and difficult rough lurking everywhere, golfers with precision should have a leg up on the competition again this week.

Tour Junkies: TPC Potomac will be a very tough test this week as it played as one of the hardest courses on tour last year. Driving accuracy will be key with several hazards lurking off the tee and rough that is penal as well. This being a smaller and weaker field, we will also look to take a little more risk when it comes to our GPP lineups.

hondizzle: This is not a sexy week to do a ton of DFS PGA research. The overall lack of big names in the field could have a big effect on the roster building process this week. Pay attention to the site-specific values, as it will be harder to build rosters on DraftKings this week. While the TPC at Avenel will test a player’s ability to hit accurate golf shots, scrambling will also play a big part in success this week.

What is your hot take of the week?

Notorious: Tiger Woods beats Rickie Fowler in an epic Sunday battle where they are paired together in the second to final group.

STLCardinals84: Rickie Fowler dominates this weak field event and wins by six strokes, and his big lead helps him shake off the usual Sunday nerves.

futureoffantasy: Tiger gets back into contention, leading after 54 holes but fades on Sunday as Fowler comes from just off the pace to hoist the hardware.

Tour Junkies: After knocking on the door for several weeks, Jimmy Walker breaks thru and gets his first win since the 2016 PGA Championship

hondizzle: Tiger Woods returns to the winner’s circle.

Who is your top contrarian golfer on the board and why?

Notorious: David Lingmerth – It feels gross paying this price for Lingmerth, but that’s actually a positive this week. It should help keep his ownership in check. He was the 36-hole leader here last year and ended up in a tie for fifth. When he played here back in 2012, he won the Web.com event. He clearly has an eye for the course and seems to be rounding into form, finishing in the top 30 in two of his last three events on tour.

STLCardinals84: C.T. Pan – He bombed as a popular value pick a week ago, and everyone is rushing to jump off the ship. This is a great spot to zig when others zag, as we have a similar type of layout this week. Prior to the missed cut at TPC River Highlands, Pan had racked up three straight top 35 finishes. I’ll gladly fire him up as a contrarian option a week after he let a lot of people down.

futureoffantasy: Jimmy Walker – Priced in the top tier across the board, this Texan enters with a T56 in his latest start. That might draw the attention away from his tremendous form since the Masters. He’s posted five top 20s in six solo starts over that stretch. I will continue to ride that form until it hits a snag but I don’t think the ownership will be there this week which makes him a solid contrarian option.

Tour Junkies: This was a toss up for us between Jimmy Walker and Kiradech Aphibarnrat, but we are gonna go with the Barn Rat as our favorite this week. Kiradech has been playing really well lately with two top 15 finishes and a 5th in his last 4 starts. He also checks the box for us in DFS scoring, Strokes Gained off the Tee, and has been putting extremely well. We expect ownership to be relatively low on Kiradech despite the weak field and will look to take advantage of that in our GPP lineup construction.

hondizzle: Chesson Hadley – In what has been an overall great year for Hadley, last week left a sour taste for many who chose to back this one time PGA Tour winner. Hadley is in a great spot to bounce back this week, and should be a great fit for this course. Back to back missed cuts could send a red flag to many in the DFS community, but prior to his recent poor play Hadley had posted 8 straight made cuts including 6 top 25 or better finishes.

Who is your top overall golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Rickie Fowler – I want to say Tiger Woods here, but I’ll take Fowler over him in this field. It’s only a matter of time before he gets back into the winner’s circle and he’d love to pick one up before the Open Championship. This is a weak field and Fowler is the clear betting favorite at 6-to-1. He’s basically the only golfer in the field that doesn’t seem overpriced.

STLCardinals84: Rickie Fowler – He’s simply the class of this field in terms of talent, and he finished third in last year’s debut at this course. A difficult layout doesn’t bother him, and he currently ranks fifth on the PGA Tour in par four scoring this year.

futureoffantasy: Rickie Fowler – From a long-term view, he sits about half a shot better per round than the rest of this field. Looking at 2018 only, it’s him an Tiger at the top. He’s simply the cream of the crop this week. Adding to his appeal, he posted a third-place finish here last year, gaining 5.1 strokes on approach and 5.5 strokes putting. The recently engaged Fowler should be a target in all formats and all sites this week.

Tour Junkies: Rickie Fowler – All things considered, Fowler is by far the cream of the crop this week and is easily our top overall play. Rickie checks all the stat boxes for us also and despite being so expensive we will play him in all formats as there is a ton of value at the lower end across the sites this week.

hondizzle: Tiger Woods – The quality of players in this field will make it hard to really nail down an overall top play. On FanDuel I like that you can build a roster with two top named players, but on DraftKings it’s really hard to build a quality roster with two of the top priced options. Fowler will be an extremely popular player this week, and I will instead lead on Tiger in this spot. The big cat is ready to get back into the winner’s circle and you could not think of a better week for that to happen.
