DraftZone Tests Out New Game Type With RotoGrinders Members

rg misc dz misc 4

We’ve all been taking notice to the new game types emerging as of late. It was a big deal when the GPP and Large-Field contests came out a little over a year ago. Then there were the Sit-and-Drafts, the Home Run Derbys, the weekly MLBs and the 50/50s. Starting this week DraftZone is doing a private test out a potential new game type with the help of the RotoGrinders.com community, and they’re providing $100 in cash while doing so. Thanks Gary Payton! There’s no guarantee the contest will be released to the public, but the information gathered while we test it out, could help push it there.

Daily Fantasy Meet Step Tournaments

Here’s the problem: My opinion is that the The large field guarantees are amazing opportunities to take a small-risk at a huge prize. Overall, they’re great for everyone that plays daily fantasy, and growing the industry. But when you see a $10 buy-in with over 2,700 entrants, as seen in the FFFC this season, you start to feel like you’re not even involved. One injured player, one vultured touchdown, and you feel like you have no shot at first place. It’s great to have small buy-in options available, but if you’re playing to win, these large field sizes can really disinterest you week-to-week. Not everyone can afford a big buy-in, which would reduce the field sizes, but what can be done is take another note form the online poker industry and add ‘Steps’.

Small-Buy In, Bigger Chance to Win: Steps are a good way to give you a realistic shot to win each week, without having to put up 200 points. Again, to be clear, DraftZone has no official plans to release anything, this is just an initial test of the idea with the RotoGrinders community. DraftZone is also known for their game innovation, as evidenced by their Live Drafts being held for two NFL seasons now, and their Bracket Challenges. That said, here is what we’re hosting:

RG/DZ Live Draft Challenge

‘Regular Season’ Round

Regular Season Payouts
1st: $80
2nd: $25
3rd: $15

‘Playoff’ Round

Pretty awesome, eh? I think the coolest part is how this can be applied to the landscape of daily fantasy contests. 12 entrants and 2 moving on was chosen for this week, but there’s no reason this couldn’t become a massive Head-to-Head Challenge, have six rounds of six man competitions, or 10 week longs of 10 mans, where the eventual winner gets a trip to the Super Bowl. Really, the possibilities are endless. Here’s a look at the Draft Tables on DZ. The software is great, it really allows you to get the Season Long draft experience, every week:
