Point Guard
Ty Lawson – Tonight’s matchup between the Nuggets and Lakers should be plenty of fun. Both teams play at a fast pace, and both teams struggle on the defensive end. The Lakers are always a risk to get blown out, so hopefully they can keep this game close enough so that starters will play their full complement of minutes. Lawson is extremely consistent and has a very high floor due to his high scoring and assist totals. He’s an extremely safe play tonight and has the best matchup on the board at the point guard position.
Brandon Jennings – I can’t believe I’m doing this, but I’m recommending Jennings in cash games tonight. The departure of Josh Smith has not only made the Pistons a much better team, but it’s improved the fantasy outlook of every single member of the team. Jennings has been terrific lately and matches up with a Magic team that bleeds fantasy points to the point guard position. I see no reason to think that he’ll slow down tonight, and his price tag of $6800 is very attractive given the kind of upside he has.
Shooting Guard
Jimmy Butler – Butler is a stud that’s priced at a discount. The Bulls will likely handle the Nets fairly easily at home, but given Butler’s surge and the number of minutes he plays, he makes for one of the safest plays on the board every night the Bulls play. He does everything on the court, and is one of the least likely players in the league to drop a dud and tank your lineup. If you can afford him, which you should be able to, he’s a very strong cash game play.
Wesley Matthews – I like this play much more if Aldridge is forced to sit again. Kyle Lowry is going to give Lillard some problems on the defensive end, and the Blazers simply don’t have much in the way of scoring if Aldridge is out and Lillard is being harrassed by Lowry. Matthews is going to have to put up a lot of shots tonight, and he should be viewed as a high floor play tonight. If Aldridge plays, I’d probably look more to Bradley Beal against the awful Dallas perimeter defense ( Ellis is playing with a bum ankle too ), or Tyreke Evans in an up tempo matchup with New Orleans.
