Week 6
Quarterback
Matt Ryan: $8,700 (vs. Chicago Bears) – Even though Peyton Manning will likely have another solid fantasy outing this week against the Jets, Matt Ryan is the better fantasy play. Not only is he cheaper, but he heads back home to the Georgia Dome to take on the Bears in a game that features the highest total of the week. The Falcons offensive line is still a mess, but that hasn’t stopped Ryan from being one of the best fantasy quarterbacks in the league. Through the first five games, Ryan has the fourth most total fantasy points among all NFL quarterbacks. The fact that this game is being played at home only helps Ryan’s fantasy value as he has averaged over 300 yards and close to two touchdowns per game at home since the start of 2013. Ryan has a bevy of talented wideouts that should be able to carve up this hobbled Bears secondary that is still without CB Charles Tillman. Look for the Falcons to employ a vertical passing attack in this one.
Eli Manning: $7,200 (vs. Philadelphia Eagles) – Manning has really gotten off to a fast start this season. The Giants have employed a quick passing attack that has allowed Manning to stay upright which was a huge issue last season. Through the first five games, Manning has thrown 11 touchdowns while only throwing 5 interceptions. He should be able to add to his touchdown total this week as he is facing an Eagles defense that has given up the second most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. After Austin Davis threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles last week, Manning and the G-Men should be licking their chops for this matchup. This game has the second highest total on the board and Manning may be the safest cash game play available.
Running Back
Matt Forte: $9,000 (vs. Atlanta Falcons) – There are usually a few top tier running backs to choose from, but this week there is Matt Forte and then there is everyone else. Forte is coming off of a monster game against the Panthers in which he racked up 166 yards from scrimmage. He also added 12 receptions in that game and managed to find the end zone for the first time this season. Forte leads all running backs (it’s not even close) with 42 targets through the air which boosts his fantasy value as each reception is worth 0.5 fantasy points on FanDuel. This week he squares off against a Falcons defense that has given up 147 rushing yards per game (31st in the NFL) and 2 rushing touchdowns per game (worst in the NFL). It’s not a surprise that the Falcons have given up the most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Forte is the undisputed champion of the running backs this week.
Le’Veon Bell: $8,600 (vs. Cleveland Browns) – Outside of DeMarco Murray, Bell has been the most consistent fantasy running back this season. He has topped 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the first five weeks and he has scored at least 13.2 fantasy points on FanDuel in every game. While LeGarrette Blount does get some work in the Steelers backfield, Bell is still ranked third among all running backs in touches per game at 22.2. Bell is also seeing 5.8 targets per game which adds to his fantasy appeal. This week he faces a Browns defense that he torched back in Week 1 for 197 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. The Browns have struggled against opposing running backs all season long and we can expect another heavy dose of Bell this week.
Andre Williams: $6,300 (vs. Philadelphia Eagles) – Rashad Jennings left last week’s game with a sprained MCL is going to miss the next few weeks. That opens the door for Williams to become the Giants’ workhorse back. Williams performed admirably in last week’s win against the Falcons as he complied 83 yards from scrimmage on 22 touches. Williams should be one of the more popular value plays of the week as he squares off against the fast-paced Eagles who seem to forget that defense is half of the battle in the NFL. The Eagles have allowed 4.2 yards per carry this season and are below average at defending the running back position. Treat Williams the same as you would Rashad Jennings as he should see a similar workload. At $6,300, he’s a terrific play this week.
