Everything in the sport of baseball comes down to the hitter-versus-pitcher matchup – which makes pitching the most important element of MLB DFS play. Without an understanding of the best pitching plays on the day, your DFS efforts will be sunk! Each day, the Pitching Primer will provide you with some of the top pitching plays on the day – taking a close look at the “why” behind these picks, and helping you to identify pitchers others might overlook.

Main Slate

Arm I Trust Today

Jacob deGrom vs. San Diego Padres: $11,000

deGrom is far and away the safest pitcher on this small five game main slate, and I recommend plugging him into your cash game lineup. He is the largest favorite on the slate at -205, and the Padres have the lowest implied run total at 3.1.

deGrom has shown an enormous boost in his strikeout numbers this year. Let’s take a look at some of his numbers this year compared to his previous three.

2014: 140 IP, 25.5% K%, 11.8% SwStr%, 7.6% BB%, 45.4% GB%, 31.8% Hard%
2015: 191 IP, 27.3% K%, 12.7% SwStr%, 5.1% BB%, 44.4% GB%, 26.3% Hard%
