Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?
Notorious: There are five teams on the schedule that have an implied total of at least 114 points. This is shaping up to be one of the highest scoring slates of the season.
STLCardinals84: Cleveland has a massive team total of 119 tonight, which is the highest implied team total on the board. This is despite the fact that they are on the road and have been hit or miss all year as a team. When you combine that with the fact that Rodney Hood might be out again, there’s plenty of Cleveland plays to like in a favorable matchup against the Suns.
Stevietpfl: With Bazemore, Bembry, and Delaney off the floor this season, Dennis Schroder has a 42.2% usage rate while averaging 1.57 fantasy points per minute over a 86-minute sample. That’s a 10.4% usage bump for him.
TheSeige: With lots of high totals, people might ignore the totals that get sharp action, and DAL/NY has already moved from a 213 total to a 216.5 total. This is a huge move to happen before noon and illustrates the lack of defense in that game. It doesn’t hurt that the players come nice and cheap.
What is your hot take of the day?
Notorious: Lonzo Ball posts a triple-double by the end of the third quarter.
STLCardinals84: The Cleveland/Phoenix game goes for 250 total points.
Stevietpfl: Larry Nance goes for 50+ fantasy points.
TheSeige: The winning lineup in the big $1.5 million on FD will have at least one player from each of DAL, NYK and BKN.
Who is your top contrarian play on the board and why?
Notorious: Paul Millsap – Since coming back from injury, Millsap has played good, but not great. He’s been a popular target recently, but people are starting to lose interest. We saw him play 30 minutes against the Lakers last week and I’m expecting between 28-30 again tonight. I will gladly take Millsap at low ownership in an elite matchup.
STLCardinals84: Dwight Howard – His size on the interior is the only prayer the Hornets have to slow down Anthony Davis. While his play has been up and down a little more lately, the potential is certainly there. Howard has shown his upside plenty of times this year, and his price tag is still reasonable compared to other top end centers. He also played well in the first meeting between these teams this year, piling up 22 points and 16 rebounds over 37 minutes of court time.
Stevietpfl: Dennis Schroder – The numbers above stand out for Schroder in this matchup against the Thunder. OKC will be on a back-to-back with travel, so I could see this game staying closer than normal. With the questionable injury tag, Schroder could be extremely low owned, and I’m willing to roll the dice in all of the major tournaments tonight.
TheSeige: Allen Crabbe – Crabbe has been a 28-34 minute player all year and gets a nice matchup against Toronto, and the pace should be quick. On a slate like today, I’m very interested in GPPs when I see a 11-14 shot per game player at sub-$5K.
Who is your top overall play on the board and why?
Notorious: LeBron James – I plan to anchor my FanDuel lineups with LeBron in this amazing matchup against the defensively-challenged Suns.
STLCardinals84: LeBron James – He has the safest floor and the highest ceiling of the studs on the slate tonight. Cleveland is coming off an embarrassing weekend loss against the Lakers, and this could be a game where he just decides to take over, video game style. It’s certainly possible with the Suns on the docket. He will be the high end play that I have the most exposure to this evening.
Stevietpfl: Larry Nance – I feel like he’s still underpriced for his current role in this offense. Cleveland has the highest implied team total on the slate, and it’s 8.5 points higher than their season average. The Suns rank 30th in defensive effeciency against power forwards and 24th against centers. Nance has a great matchup whether he’s playing the four or five tonight.
TheSeige: Kyle Lowry – I like the TOR/BKN game more than most, as the prices of the players I’m targeting are too cheap across the industry. But, Lowry is the best of the options. He has averaged over 45 fantasy points against the Nets this year, and the Jarrett Allen / Dante Cunningham center rim protection is actually a downgrade from their year long numbers. I just love this spot for an aggressive Lowry to show up today.
