FanDuel Week 9: GPP Lineup Recap

rotogrinders_user_11195

Oh what a sweat I had last night! I will forever have a love/hate relationship with Mr. Beckham Jr. for a couple reasons that I’ll mention below. When you end up 1.2 points out of $140,000 worth of FFFC seats (2), you replay every snap throughout Sunday and Monday. I was fortunate enough to win three seats into the Playboy Mansion championship, which was a nice consolation prize.

Below is the lineup that cashed in two of three Playboy Mansion seats and almost took down two FFFC seats.

Starting Quarterback

Ben Roethlisberger (35.7) – Coming off a six-TD performance, Big Ben couldn’t do it again….or could he? Big Ben will not win any style points in his QB style, but the guy gets the job done. I couldn’t believe he was the first QB to throw 12 TDs in two games with all the great QBs to have played in the NFL. Do you dare fade him against the lowly Jets pass D?

Starting Running Backs

Jeremy Hill (28.8) – I am not sure I really need to justify this play. It is tough not to run out any starting running back who is priced at $5,200. The matchup wasn’t too bad either. The only regret I had wasn’t playing him in my Thursday leagues. I didn’t have enough information by kickoff for Thursday night football to justify it. Congratulations to those of you who had the guts to do it. It paid off dearly. Was anyone else ready to punch a hole through their computer screen when he went to the locker room with the knee injury?

Ronnie Hillman (21.8) – Hillman’s price continues to creep across the industry, and rightfully so. He continues to benefit from being in Peyton Manning’s offense. The RBs, whether with the Colts or Broncos, always seem to have great seasons due to the defense preparing/focusing on Manning. This is another situation on Sunday that could have won me the FFFC seat. Hillman did not play the last couple drives largely due to the game being a blowout. Was one more catch for seven yards too much to ask?

Starting Wide Receivers

Antonio Brown (25.9) – Ho hum, just another day at work for Mr. Brown. Antonio has been a monster this season. He leads the league in targets this year, with a staggering 11.44 targets/game. Did you know the next closest guy is at 16 tagets behind him? A little secret…Pittsburgh hasn’t had their bye week yet, so the numbers are a bit skewed. This was the combo I was looking for to pair with Big Ben. It paid off nicely!

Mike Evans (27.9) – Why Mike Evans you ask? KillaB, why would you pick a guy that has had five straight games of catching four balls? To be honest, I liked the matchup against the Cleveland pass D, which is near the bottom in fantasy points given up to WRs. He was also only $6,000, and was at the type of low percentage ownership you need to put you over the top in a big GPP. Unfortunately, more times than not you miss on these plays. Evans happened to be one of a few needles in the haystack with this lineup.

Odell Beckham Jr. (19.6) – Oh Mr. Beckham, how could you do me wrong? Where do I start? I needed 21 points going into this game to take down two FFFC seats. Did I mention that yet? This was a fun sweat right down to the wire. Granted Beckham received a bunch of garbage points, which did make it interesting. What if he wouldn’t have ran out of bounds a yard short on 4th and 10? What if the Colts wouldn’t have challenged it? What if the refs wouldn’t have overturned the original call that it was a first down? All I needed was one catch for seven yards! C’mon man!

Starting Tight End

Rob Gronkowski (21) – Well, I think the Gronk of old is back. When Tommy has his weapon back, he looks like a completely different QB. Denver has given up the seventh-most points to TEs. In a game that was slated to be a shootout, you had to figure Gronk was going to get his. Putting up 9-105-1 was a very nice line to pay off his increasing price tag.

Kicker

Cairo Santos (6) – The intangibles (defense and kicker) can be the difference in THE winning lineup and being the runner-up. Two more points was the difference in losing and winning this week. Am I really still analyzing the kicker position? Ugh!

Starting Defense

49ers Defense (9) – I am not sure many saw this coming. San Francisco was coming off a bye and playing at home against what many thought was an inferior opponent. Oh how wrong was I? The defense didn’t play that bad, but I was definitely hoping for more than nine points in this matchup. Again, the intangibles make all the difference in winning these GPPs.
