Fantasy Football Sleepers for 2023
Anthony Richardson – Indianapolis Colts
Anthony Richardson may prove problematic when it comes to accuracy (he threw nine interceptions in twelve games last year). But at 6’4” and 244 pounds, Richardson may be viewed as a bonus running back who also throws passes.
In those aforementioned twelve games, two of them came with triple-digit rushing yards, and he took the ball into the end zone himself nine times.
Shoring up your roster late in the draft with a mobile, goal-line threat like Richardson isn’t a bad idea.
Jerome Ford – Cleveland Browns
Last year, the Browns were sixth overall in both rushing yards (2,490) and rushing touchdowns (19). With Kareem Hunt now a free agent, Nick Chubb will be the focal point of this rushing attack.
Jerome Ford draws the backup and change-of-pace duties behind Chubb. Obviously, Ford’s biggest appeal is contingent upon Chubb missing any time. However, even with Chubb active, there should be enough rushing volume on this offense for Ford to have productive outings.
It’s worth mentioning that Ford was dealing with a hamstring injury, but he appears to have recovered and should be good to go Week 1.
Quentin Johnston – Los Angeles Chargers
Just reading the injury history for Mike Williams makes me feel one step closer to a medical degree. In six games last season, Williams was out or limited.
While the first-round pick may begin the campaign operating as the WR4, it’s likely that Quentin Johnston will have some big shoes to fill at some point in the season. One peek at his game logs from last year with the Horned Frogs shows that he’s more than capable of filling them. He had triple-digit receiving yards in multiple games, and in one outing, posted a gaudy 206 receiving yards on 14 catches.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of drafting with the first few weeks in mind, but it’s important to stash away some players who could pay dividends in the back half of the season, and Johnston looks like one of those players.
