Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?
Notorious: The line in the Thunder-Cavaliers game (1.5 points) suggests that Russell Westbrook is more than likely to suit up tonight. Assuming he is active, he makes a tremendous tournament play, as he has scored 65 fantasy points in each of his last two meetings with LeBron James.
STLCardinals84: Even though this is a relatively small slate, we might see some chaos on the news wires. Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony are still uncertain to return tonight, and the Spurs are on the second game of a back to back set. Optimal lineups at lunch time might not be optimal lineups at lock time. This is a night where keeping eyes tuned for news will be vital.
Stevietpfl: Pau Gasol played 33 minutes last night against Utah, and has sat out in two of the last four back-to-backs for the Spurs. He sat the front end of the last back-to-back and then played 34 minutes in the back end of it. I think we see some more of the Spurs sit out tonight.
TheSeige: When Pau Gasol does play back-to-backs, he normally plays only a half. With Tony Parker just returning from an injury and lots of other old guys (Manu Ginobili, Danny Green, etc.) on the roster, I can see the Spurs giving them all the day off instead of flying into Denver on the back-to-back, creating a ton of value.
What’s your hot take of the day?
STLCardinals84: Despite the tough matchup, we see a 60+ fantasy point game from the thriving Nikola Jokic.
Stevietpfl: Thon Maker goes for 25+ fantasy points
TheSeige: Davis Bertans goes for 30+ fantasy points
Who will you be most overweight on compared to the field and why?
Notorious: Taurean Prince – It’s not going to take much to be overweight on Prince, as he has burned a lot of bridges in the past. However, his price is sitting at playable levels across the industry and he draws a nice matchup against the Bucks. He’ll likely be tasked with defending Giannis Antetokounmpo, so I like his chances to top 30 minutes.
STLCardinals84: Nikola Jokic – People naturally get scared of matchups against the Spurs, but Jokic is simply a different breed. His all-around skill set gives him a solid floor against any opponent, and the Spurs are not at full strength. Without Leonard and Aldridge, I’m not going to shy away from targeting a guy who will be under-owned and has the upside to be the highest scoring player on the slate.
Stevietpfl: Thon Maker – With John Henson already ruled out for tonight’s game, I like the value of Thon Maker. We don’t have a ton of value on this slate, so I’m willing to go heavy on him against Atlanta. The Hawks rank 22nd in defensive efficiency against centers this season.
TheSeige: Davis Bertans – We know Aldridge is out for sure, which makes Bertans a great play in a pace-up game. He’s averaging .8 fantasy points per minute with Kawhi/LMA off the floor this season.
