What is your favorite correlation of the week and why?
Notorious: Marcus Mariota to Rishard Matthews and/or Delanie Walker – We are finally starting to see Mariota make plays with his legs. He ran the ball ten times in Week 17 against the Jaguars and was consistently outside of the pocket in the game against the Chiefs. His rushing floor makes him an appealing DFS play in all formats. You can pair him with Walker or Matthews, who both draw nice matchups against a beatable Patriots’ secondary.
JMToWin: Case Keenum to Adam Thielen – This cannot be filed under ‘the best plays on the slate,’ as New Orleans has a strong pass defense, but while this game could become a low-scoring affair, it could also shoot out. And if it shoots out, there is massive likelihood that the Keenum/Thielen connection will be a large reason why. With Thielen playing primarily on the interior, he will avoid Marcus Lattimore more than Stefon Diggs, which opens up the possibility for a big game – at what will likely be reasonably low ownership for a slate this size.
Meansy53: Tom Brady and TITANS pass-catchers – With Tennessee funneling everything through the air because of their good run defense, I expect Tom Brady to carve them up. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Brady account for all of the team’s touchdowns (with a team total over 30, by the way). With a healthy arsenal of weapons, however, it is much harder figuring out who to pair him with. So with a two-touchdown spread, I have no problem bringing it back with the likes of Corey Davis, Eric Decker, and Delanie Walker. The game script should lead to the Titans having to throw a ton, and all of these guys are very affordable across the industry.
Stevietpfl: Nick Foles and Nelson Agholor – This combo is extremely cheap on DraftKings, and I don’t expect it to be a high owned combo. I like the Titans passing game as well this weekend, but I think Agholor is under priced for the matchup. Foles has a 5:1 TD:INT ratio in his three starts. It’s not the best matchup on the slate, but it allows me to fit in the studs I want a RB.
Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?
Notorious: The Vikings have only allowed eight touchdowns in eight home games this season. It could be a good week to have very little exposure to the Saints’ offense.
JMToWin: Derrick Henry has played 128 of the Titans’ 132 snaps the last two weeks.
Meansy53: The Titans gave up the most receiving yards (967) to running backs during the regular season. Their opponents, the Patriots, gave up the second most (844 yards).
Stevietpfl: Latavius Murray has at least 19 touches in five of the last six games. The Siants rank 23rd in DVOA against the run this season.
What’s your hot take of the week?
Notorious: My Jaguars upset the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
JMToWin: Antonio Brown is the highest-scoring wide receiver.
Meansy53: The NE/TEN game is the highest scoring game on the slate by 10+ points.
Stevietpfl: Dion Lewis has 150 total yards and 6 catches
Who will you be most overweight on compared to the field and why?
Notorious: Nelson Agholor – In these small slates, we have to find value. One of my favorites is Agholor, who should be able to avoid the coverage of Desmond Trufant, who will likely shadow Alshon Jeffery. Agholor has been a favorite target of Nick Foles, drawing seven and nine targets in Weeks 15 and 16.
JMToWin: Delanie Walker – On a week without a ton of value, Delanie is actually one of the most fairly-priced players on the slate; the Titans are almost certain to be playing from behind – and with Derrick Henry on the field all game and rarely trusted in the pass game, this means a few extra looks to go to wide receivers and tight ends. Delanie is the Titans’ best weapon and has their most winnable matchup, making him an excellent guy to lock in this week.
Meansy53: Le’Veon Bell – The Jaguars are obviously a team that should be attacked on the ground as opposed to through the air. And with Antonio Brown coming off an injury, I’d expect the Steelers to give Bell the ball repeatedly this weekend. We could see one of those games where he sees well over 30 touches, so I want as much exposure to that as possible.
Stevietpfl: Nelson Agholor – He’s going to be my guy this weekend. I love this matchup for him, and Atlanta ranks 25th in DVOA against WR2 on the season. With Jeffery likely being shadowed by Trufant, Foles will look for Nelson Agholor in his plus matchup.
