Farmers Insurance Open Picks & Projections (DK & DS)
It’s quite a week for fantasy golf. Not only are Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both making their PGA debuts this week, but DraftKings has unleashed an incredible $50k tournament to kick off their entrance into the fantasy golf world. This tournament is a $200 entry with a $7,500 first place prize. While I typically focus my PGA picks for Draftstreet, this week I will do a special edition of the picks and projections. DK’s picks and projections are on page 1 and DS’s picks and projections are on page 2.
Farmers Insurance Open Preview
This week’s event will be played at Tiger Woods’ favorite course, Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. This will be the first PGA event for both Woods and Mickelson and is generally considered the first main event of the season. This week has Tiger Woods written all over it as he has won 7 times on this golf course including last year at this event.
This event will played on two courses. The first 36 holes are split between the South course and North course, with the last 36 holes played on the South course. The North course is the shortest and easiest of the two courses. This event will feature a cut after the first two days of play. The golfers that finish in the top 70 + ties will move on to the weekend.
Farmers Insurance Open – DK Picks
- Tiger Woods: $11,200 – Call me Captain Obvious, but I think Woods makes a great play this week. DK’s salaries look pretty solid for their first ever golf event, but I do wish that Woods would have been a little bit more expensive. He will likely be the highest owned player on the board this week and for good reason. He is the defending champ and is playing on his favorite course. Woods is cheap enough that you can surround him with a solid cast as well.
- Brandt Snedeker: $10,100 – If you gave me Tiger and Snedeker vs. the field, I would take Tiger and Snedeker. I really think one of them will walk away with the trophy this weekend. Snedeker won this event in 2012, finished runner-up last season, and also has a 3rd place finish under his belt. Snedeker was a bit up and down last season at times, but when his game is on, there are few better golfers in the world. Look for him to finish with a strong top-10 performance and be in the running come Sunday.
- Matt Jones: $7,100 – Jones had a very solid ending to the 2012-13 season and is off to a nice start this season. He is not a household name by any stretch of the imagination, but I really think he has a good chance of contending this week. His odds of winning this tournaments are about 80/1 which is actually very good considering the other options in his price range. Jones did miss the cut in this event last season, but he is playing much better golf this time around.
- K.J. Choi: $7,200 – Choi is one of those golfers that is extremely consistent. And when it comes to daily fantasy golf, that’s exactly what you want to see. Choi has only missed one cut in his last 15 events and is coming off of back to back top-20 finishes. Not only that, but Choi has a good track record at Torrey Pines and finished in the top-10 in this event last season. In daily fantasy golf, you need your value picks to make the cut and that’s exactly what Choi should provide.
