Farmers Insurance Open Preview
This week’s event will be played at Tiger Woods’ favorite course, Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. This will be the first PGA event for both Woods and Mickelson and is generally considered the first main event of the season. This week has Tiger Woods written all over it as he has won 7 times on this golf course including last year at this event.
This event will played on two courses. The first 36 holes are split between the South course and North course, with the last 36 holes played on the South course. The North course is the shortest and easiest of the two courses. This event will feature a cut after the first two days of play. The golfers that finish in the top 70 + ties will move on to the weekend.
Farmers Insurance Open – DS Picks
- Brandt Snedeker: $21,188 – If you gave me Tiger and Snedeker vs. the field, I would take Tiger and Snedeker. I really think one of them will walk away with the trophy this weekend. Snedeker won this event in 2012, finished runner-up last season, and also has a 3rd place finish under his belt. On DS this week, he is considerably cheaper than Tiger and is a much better alternative as he give you a lot of salary cap relief.
- Jimmy Walker: $19,603 – Walker is one of the hottest golfers on tour right now. He already has 2 PGA victories under his belt this season and has a great track record at this event. Last year, Walker finished tied for 4th. Golf is a streaky sport and you want to target the golfers that are playing well at the time. I think Walker has a great shot at a top-10 finish and will likely be in contention come Sunday.
- Roberto Castro: $13,670 – Castro is a player that is high in my projections, but may not be on too many people’s radar this week. His price is very affordable and he lets you spend up to get some of the bigger names on your 6-man roster. Castro played in this event last season and finished with a respectable 44th place finish. He is coming into the event with top-25 finishes in 5 of his last 7 events and has an outside chance of contending this week.
- Brendan Todd: $14,982 – Todd is a young golfer that is really making a name for himself right now. He has already played in 6 events this season and has made the cut in all 6 events. He also has a top-10 finish during that stretch. Todd played great last week and will look to keep his hot play going. Like I mentioned above, golf is a streaky sport and there aren’t many hotter golfers than Todd right now.
