The NBA regular season resumes on Thursday with a nine-game slate, including a marquee matchup between the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers on TNT at 7:30 p.m. EST. Entering play, Memphis (35-22) owns the second-best record in the Western Conference. Philadelphia (38-19) owns the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. Tonight, oddsmakers are expecting a tightly-contested affair between these two teams, pricing the 76ers as 3.5-point home favorites on the spread.
Memphis Grizzlies
Adams OUT
Since Steven Adams last played on January 22, the Grizzlies are 4-7 and rank 23rd out of 30 teams in Net Rating. In that span, they are winless in five contests on the road and have been outscored by 14.1 points per 100 possessions in five in games against the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, and Sacramento Kings.
Per Cleaning the Glass, Memphis ranks in the 91st percentile in offensive efficiency and the 90th percentile in defensive efficiency this season when Adams is on the floor, compared to the 30th percentile in offensive efficiency and the 84th percentile in defensive efficiency when he is on the sidelines.
Road woes
In 28 road games this year, Memphis is 11-17 and ranks 16th out of 30 teams in Net Rating. Notably, the Grizzlies are allowing 113.4 points per 100 possessions on the road this season, compared to 106.2 points per 100 possessions at home.
Since Adams last played, Memphis ranks 23rd in opponent field goal percentage, 29th in opponent three-point percentage, 28th in opponent rebounds per game, and 30th in opponent assists per game. Only five teams have allowed more points per game on the road in that span.

Philadelphia 76ers
Dominant at home
On the season, Philadelphia is 23-8 at home and ranks seventh out of 30 teams in Net Rating, having outscored their opponents by 6.1 points per 100 possessions. They have been even better at Wells Fargo Center of late, winning 16 of their last 19 home contests since December 9. In that span, they rank fourth in offensive efficiency, scoring 119.7 points per 100 possessions. Facing a struggling Memphis defense, Joel Embiid and company are likely to face little resistance on Thursday.
Embiid not listed on the injury report
For the first time in nearly a month, Embiid is not listed on the team’s official injury report ahead of tip-off this evening. Since January 28, Embiid has been dealing with foot soreness, but the extra rest afforded to players following All-Star Weekend has evidently allowed time for sufficient healing to get Embiid back near 100 percent health.
Even at less than full health, Embiid averaged 32.1 points and 11.5 rebounds across his final 10 games heading into the break. Expect him to have a big performance on Thursday.
Grizzlies vs. 76ers – Picks & Predictions
Although Thursday’s matchup between the Grizzlies and 76ers is a battle between two teams with excellent records this season, this is a contest that is rather lopsided.
Memphis has been worse than the league average across their last 11 games with Steven Adams on the sidelines, including five straight losses on the road. Conversely, Philadelphia has won 16 of their last 19 games in their home building and will be at full strength this evening.
Philadelphia should have little trouble covering a small spread in this situation.
PICK: 76ers -3.5 (-110, FanDuel)
