On Super Bowl Sunday, the NBA slate features only two games, beginning with the Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics at 2:00 p.m. EST on ABC. Ahead of tip-off, both teams have ruled out some of their key contributors. Oddsmakers are expecting a competitive game script between these two short-handed teams, pricing the Celtics as 4-point home favorites on the spread.
Memphis Grizzlies
Adams OUT
This afternoon, Steven Adams will miss his 10th consecutive game with a right knee sprain. Since he last played on January 22, Memphis is 3-6 overall and ranks 23rd in Net Rating, having been outscored by 2.4 points per 100 possessions. In that span, the Grizzlies are winless on the road, suffering losses to the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to Cleaning the Glass, Memphis ranks in the 92nd percentile in offensive efficiency and the 89th percentile in defensive efficiency when Adams is on the court this season, compared to the 30th percentile in offensive efficiency and the 85th percentile in defensive efficiency when he is on the sidelines. The team is 28-14 with Adams in the lineup this year, but only 3-7 when he is in street clothes.

Who will step up for the Celtics?
Per CourtIQ, Malcolm Brogdon (+4.5%) and Derrick White (+4.4%) see the largest increase in usage on the Celtics roster when both Brown and Smart are off of the floor. In these situations, Brogdon is averaging 24.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per 36 minutes. White is averaging 19.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per 36 minutes. Both players are likely to be heavily involved in the offense once again on Sunday.
Grizzlies vs. Celtics – Picks & Predictions
Already one of the slower paced teams in the NBA, Boston slows the pace down even further when Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart are off of the floor this season. When Steven Adams is off of the floor this season, Memphis ranks in the 30th percentile in offensive efficiency, scoring only 111.9 points per 100 possessions, but they remain strong on the defensive end of the floor. Expect a lower-scoring affair between these two teams- take the under.
