What’s up Grinders, we are happy to bring you another edition of the High Stakes Scenes. Notorious and I will be covering DraftStreet’s $100,000 Heavy Hitter Series. This is a 16-man bracket with some of the biggest names in the industry competing. The first round consisted of a best of 3 series so we will give a quick recap of each game as well as our take on the series. Each scoreboard is linked below if you want to check out the actual scores.
g123 vs. MrTuttle05
Game 1
Game 2
Game 3
Thoughts on the Series:
g123 > MrTuttle05 2-1
MrTuttle took down game 1 behind the bats of Troy Tulowitzki and Wilin Rosario. Both players loaded up on this game, but these were the only two players they had different. It was a big 16 point boost over g123, and was the deciding factor of game 1. Game 2 of this matchup ended up not being close at all, and g123 walked away with this matchup. G123 decided to stay with the hot bat of Matt Adams, and loaded up on players at Coors Field again. Brandon Crawford, Michael Morse, and Matt Adams were able to match MrTuttles entire team score, and thus making them the deciding factor in game 2. Game 3 between these two guys was the highest scoring game of the night. They both nailed their hitters in the matchup, but Tuttle was ahead 3.75 with his hitters. G123 crushed his pitching tonight, and was able to beat Tuttle by 19.5 with his pitchers. G123 went very risky with Floyd against the red hot Rockies, and it was actually the deciding factor in this matchup.
G123 is very good on DraftStreet, and I think MrTuttle did a great job giving him a run for his money in this matchup. These guys are both very good players, and I think this was the hardest matchup on this side of the bracket for round 1. MrTuttle will now follow along with the rest of us, and g123 will try to stay hot advancing to his round 2 matchup.
SalCaps vs. GotEmBaseball
Game 1
Game 2
Game 3
Thoughts on the Series:
GotEmBaseball > SalCaps 2-1
SalCaps jumped out of the gate with a huge 27.5 win against GotEm. Melky Cabrera was able to outscore all of Gotem’s hitters, and was by far the deciding factor in game 1. Game 2 was one of the lowest scoring matchups of the night, but Gotem was able to tie it up. Gotem outscored Salcaps by 17 points with his pitching, and Phil Hughes was the deciding factor of this matchup. SalCaps nailed his hitting, but got a combined -1.83 for 30k out of his pitchers. Deciding game 3 was dominated by GotEmBaseball. Gotem was able to outscore SalCaps with hitters and pitchers. Brandon Moss and Adam Jones both had good games, and were the deciding factor of game 3. SalCaps like the rest of us, was very disappointed in Edwin Jackson.
GotEmBaseball has busted onto the scene over the past few weeks, and is a very hot player right now. SalCaps is a very good player, and I think this was our first upset. This was the first 3 days GotEmBaseball has played on DraftStreet, and I think he is someone to watch moving forward.
Vegetable_Lasagna vs. maxdalury
Game 1
Game 2
Thoughts on the Series:
Vegetable_Lasagna > Maxdalury 2-0
This is actually one of my favorite matchups for round 1, and both of these guys are very good DraftStreet players. Game 1 of this matchup was very interesting. Vegetable_Lasagna (VL) was able to outscore Max by 30 points on hitters, but Max outscored VL by 19.5 with his pitchers. The deciding factor of this matchup was VL’s hitters. Game 2 was much closer than game 1, but Vegetable_Lasagna was able to pull it out. The hitters were only separated by 1 point, with only 4 overlap players. This matchup came down to Phil Hughes vs. Tommy Milone, and Phil Hughes for the second straight matchup was the deciding factor.
Vegetable_Lasagna is the dark horse of this competition, and not a lot of people know him because he only plays on DraftStreet. This was a very good matchup of 2 very good DraftStreet players, but Vegetable_Lasagna was able to give us the only sweep of round 1. A lot of people are going to be shocked with Mr. Draftstreet (MaxDalury) going out in the first round, and Vegetable_Lasagna is going to be tough to beat moving forward.
Chop vs. pujols50
Game 1
Game 2
Game 3
Thoughts on the Series:
Chop > Pujols50 2-1
Pujols50 was able to outscore Chop’s whole team with his pitching in game 1. Wainwright, Fister, and Teheran were able to dominate, and were by far the deciding factor in this matchup. Chop was able to beat him with his hitters, but it just wasn’t enough to make up the pitching difference. Game 2 was reverse of game 1, and Chop’s pitching was the deciding factor. Phil Hughes was used again, and with Weaver was able to give Chop a very comfortable win. Chop used almost 60% of his salary cap on pitchers, and wanted to make sure pitching wasn’t the reason he was eliminated. Pujols50 used a RP for the first time in this round, and the cap he saved really didn’t pay off for him. Chop decided to save cap with his pitchers in game 3, and only spent 39% of his cap. This move paid off huge for him, and he was able to get 50 points out of his hitters. Pujols50 nailed his pitching once again, but his hitters just weren’t able to do enough.
Chop was able to bounce back from a game 1 loss, and take home the round 1 matchup. Pujols50 definitely gave Chop a run for his money, and came up just short. I’m really looking forward to Chop’s round 2 matchup with VL, and I think it’s the top matchup of round 2.
