Editor’s Note: The “High Stakes Scene” is a recurring series giving you an in-depth look into the highest stakes games in the Daily Fantasy world. Our next “High Stakes Scene” features our own Tommy G vs. the undefeated BrettFavre444. Full details on this featured match can be read here. We hope you enjoy the coverage.

Round 2 in this best of 7 took place Wednesday night and it was a solid game. Last night’s game set included only 1 real ace (Wainwright) and some less than stellar pitching names. Let’s take a look and see how these guys attacked this slate of MLB games.

day2

My Initial Thoughts on Both Lineups:

I’m going to write this section when the game is first released, before any scores have been put up on the board. That way the results won’t influence my train of thought. When looking at these rosters for the first time tonight, I favored Tommy. Wainwright has the biggest potential to be a stud tonight as far as P’s goes. Favre rolled out Ramos. I like him in GPP’s, but also know that he has the potential to get destroyed and run out of the game before the 5th. On the strength of pitching, Tommy gets the edge in this matchup because I don’t think there is enough of an advantage at hitter for Favre with his $$$ savings. I like Beltre a lot and think his Joyce selection could be big. However that’s all I see from his hitters. I don’t like the others very much.
For Tommy, I am all in on Kendrick tonight myself, so that pick stands out. Also think the Adam Jones pick could be nice if Ramos gets bombed. I got a little share of Asdrubal on Fanduel myself so I am very approving of that one also. Bottom line on this is that before these games get cranked up I am making Tommy the favorite in this match tonight.

Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:

Ramos is a bit of an odd pick. I used him on Fanduel strictly for salary relief hoping for lightning in a bottle in GPP’s. However I don’t think I would ever use him in a cash game. What’s the upside? He is extremely blow up prone and will MAX out at 6 innings with limited strikeouts. Salazar is a different story IMO. He has huge K potential and a possible win. So I like that play. He went with a balanced approach on offense and his highest priced hitter was Trout at $9,134. He made some textbook moves here. Joyce against a RHP, Beltre against a LHP, Castro against a LHP. Solid moves in general, they just didn’t pay off tonight.

Breaking Down Tommy G’s Lineup:

Yesterday it was Favre with the stud P in Kershaw and Tommy G with a mix of middle guys, and tonight it was Tommy with the stud in Wainwright and Favre mixing it up. The team that spent on the stud pitcher has won both nights with big performances out of them. Neither of these guys had much exposure to Texas/Colorado with that wind blowing in. Tommy did roll out a mini Angels stack. He was attacking the Yankees youngster Nuno and on paper was a great play. Finding a “punt” catcher for $3,300 that hits a home run is extremely huge on Draftstreet. That’s the engine that drove this team. If you’re going to spend big money on a guy like Wainwright then you’re going to have to punt a spot or 2. If you grab a 9 spot out of your punt then it’s lights out if that stud hits.
Of course this team was propelled by the 2 home runs from Adam Jones and that was a double whammy as it ran up TG’s score while taking the starter for Favre and sticking him with no chance to win and 2 earned runs against him.

How The Game Played Out:

Basically if you’re in a cash game and you have a 2 homer performance from 1 guy in addition to a stud pitcher dealing and your opponent has neither of those things, then your usually money in the bank. The self-proclaimed King of the North had this game wrapped up before the Angels mini stack even took the field. Tonight he defended the honor. However this is a marathon and not a sprint, so let’s just kick back and enjoy the fireworks throughout the weekend.
