High Stakes Scene: Favre vs. Tommy G Game 3

Editor’s Note: The “High Stakes Scene” is a recurring series giving you an in-depth look into the highest stakes games in the Daily Fantasy world. Our next “High Stakes Scene” features our own Tommy G vs. the undefeated BrettFavre444. Full details on this featured match can be read here. We hope you enjoy the coverage.

Game 3 in this series is in the books and I have all the info you want on this slugfest. Tommy G is riding high off his win against Favre in Game 2 in addition to earning a 2nd DFBC seat that night. That’s monster. Favre was reeling a bit after Game 2 as I think Tommy had him shook by being able to match him smack talk for smack talk on Twitter. Let’s see how this game played out.

My Initial Thoughts on Both Lineups:

Author’s Note: I am giving my initial thoughts on these lineups when the game is first released, without any knowledge of the outcome or any results

The odd thing is that on a short night, with a small selection of players, there is ZERO overlap between these guys.

Pitching- I hate the Arrieta selection by Tommy. I think he gets rocked tonight. The Sox are a force on offense right now. Jimenez is boom or bust. Not a guy I would take in a cash game. Dickey is another guy I would have avoided in Toronto. For Favre he ponied up for Price. The obvious stud of the night, although he comes with risk. He’s been roughed up and some of these guys in the O’s lineup hit him well. I love the Kennedy play. He K’s guys and it’s a big park. It could hold a Stanton bomb inside better than most stadiums. For salary relief purposes I really like his Duffy pick. I threw him in on some GPP’s but I don’t know about the cash game usage of him. Early prediction- Pitching favors Favre big.

Hitting – I guess I couldn’t disagree more with Tommy on this. He has a 4 man mini stack on Colorado. I don’t like it. He also used 2 left handers against Harrison. I think it’s a bad move. The righties may get some off him but I think he shuts down the lefties and sticks around long enough to keep the Rocks in check.

Favre is rolling out the mini stack of the Jays against Burnett. He didn’t use Bautista though and that was one of the 2 guys I would use on that team tonight. I like Jose and Edwin as their BvP numbers stood out a bit too me on a short slate and I used both around the leagues tonight. 2 Cubs for Favre could pay off as I am not sold on Carroll. Joyce against the RHP again for him. Dom Brown against the knuckleballer is another move I think has potential. I’m just not sold on Dickey in this stadium. Edge in hitting to Favre
Well upon initial looks I am installing Favre as a clear favorite in tonight’s game. In my opinion he has the better hitting and pitching on his squad. We shall soon find out though.

Breaking Down Favre’s Lineup:

Ian Kennedy was big time with 12K’s.He spent more on pitching by a good margin and he outscored Tommy by 7 points at the spot. The Blue Jays mini stack worked. I still think that in a cash game, to stack or mini stack a team against a pitcher like Burnett is not smart, but it paid off for him. 28 points out of Edwin and Reyes is phenomenal. The rest of the picks were solid moves. They were all very steady and no one dipped into negatives for him.

Breaking Down Tommy G’s Lineup:

He got some decent points from his top 2 P’s, but Arrieta sunk him in that category. His hitters just didn’t pan out. It happens. Hell I think I had a team on DK put up a score of around 10 or so last night. I felt the Colorado was a risky play, especially for the left handed batters and the mini stack totaled less than 1 point for him. His late night mini stack with the Padres and Mariners hitters nailed him 0 points. This just didn’t break well for him tonight. Luckily for the Spankmaster he gets to wipe this slate clean and fire another lineup at this guy Friday.

How The Game Played Out:

Let’s not sugarcoat this. This was a blowout. Listen, I’m not a horn tooter ( seriously, I don’t toot horns in any way, shape or form), but when I looked at these teams before scores were put up I could see a Favre win coming from a mile away. I didn’t think there would be a freaking 56 point scoring differential, but that’s the nature of the game. Tommy was a little late to the Colorado party and he jumped on them just as they were shutting the shin dig down. If you are too early or too late on a trend in DFS then you lose money. You need to spot trends and be on them at the right time, either by luck or intentional. When you are on the right side of a trend then it could be a boon to your bankroll. The series is only 2-1 so there isn’t any elimination worries just yet. So I don’t foresee these guys changing their strategies up drastically overnight.

For the 3rd straight day though, the guy who spent the most on pitching, specifically an expensive stud, won this match. With all the aces rolling Friday night it is going to be curious to see how that plays out in their rosters.
