John Deere Classic Weather Report and Forecast

PGA golfer Sungjae Im

This week, we’re headed to Silvis, Illinois for the John Deere Classic, and while the weather starts great, winds and rain could be an issue over the weekend.

As usual in my PGA weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts.

With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another.

You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on the best DFS sites.

John Deere Classic Weather Forecast

Thursday, July 3rd

Great start to the tournament. Calm (0-5 mph) winds in the morning, only increasing to a bit over 5 mph by the afternoon. There’s a slim chance for a shower or storm, but more than likely, they’ll stay dry.

Friday, July 4th

It’s a bit breezier on day 2 but still fairly manageable conditions. Morning winds will be between 5-10 mph and should climb a bit over 10 mph by the afternoon, with winds gusting to 15-20 mph.

Saturday, July 5th

Winds continue picking up as we enter the weekend. I expect peak winds in the afternoon, likely reaching 15 mph sustained with gusts around 25 mph.

Sunday, July 6th

Winds should settle back to around 10 mph sustained, but we do have chances for showers and storms to close things out.

John Deere Classic Weather Thoughts

I don’t think there’s a wrong way to go about the first couple of days, but I do have a slight preference for a Thursday PM / Friday AM split. For me, it just comes down to minimizing time in peak winds, and over the first couple of days, those winds peak on Friday afternoon. If you have any weekend flexibility, I certainly prefer earlier golfers on Saturday, as they will get in and out before the strongest of the winds pick up in the afternoon.
