KillaB's GPP Recap: Week 2
Sorry for the confusion last week. I intended on giving a preview into my Draftkings lineup and should’ve mentioned that at the forefront of the article. In the future I will give you a recap to one of my lineups across the industry.
Luckily my team of cohorts had our GPP team locked in before Fanduel’s site went down on Sunday. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to scoop up some of the nice overlay that would’ve been available. I hope most of you still came out ahead even with the site issues.
Starting Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers ($9,100) – Mr. Rodgers did not look like his old self against the Seahawks. Yes, it was on the road in one of the toughest environments to play at in the NFL. You know his poor performance ate at him all week. There is nothing better than a little home cooking combined with the season opener at Lambeau Field.
Starting Running Backs
Matt Asiata ($4,500) – Well thank you AP! I will happily take advantage of your legal issues and plug in your back-up. If you remember last season, Asiata inherited a similar spot-start and found the end zone 3 times. I didn’t expect the same results but I knew he was going to return the value on the minimum price point. To justify the play even further, New England was also the 5th worst defense against running backs. Asiata’s minimum play allowed me to upgrade essentially every other position. My only gripe, Cassel couldn’t keep the game close enough to allow him to be more of a factor.
Giovani Bernard ($7,800) – Granted we only have one week of historical data, but Gio had a great matchup against the worst rush defense in the league. Add in the fact that he is much more explosive than say Ingram, Thomas, Robinson (who gashed ATL last week), and you knew Bernard was in for a big week. – He delivered. Even on FanDuel where receptions are .5 PPR, I couldn’t get away from this price and juicy matchup.
Starting Wide Receiver
Jordy Nelson ($7,900) – Well if Mr. Rodgers is getting some home cooking guess who will be joining him at the dinner table. Typically, in order to ‘bink’ a tournament you need to hit the QB/WR hancuff combination. Jordy is the go-to receiver and we saw that many times Sunday. The Jets pass D is not what it used to be when Revis Island was intact. The Packers had a chip on their shoulder after the poor showing on opening night. There was no way that was going to happen two weeks in a row and I had a feeling Nelson would be the main beneficiary.
Demaryius Thomas ($8,700) – I said it last week and I will say it again. You WILL NOT be successful in daily fantasy football if you attempt to fade the Broncos offense. Yes, you can justify it for a GPP fade but do not do it in cash games. The Asiata play allowed me to upgrade my receivers and I thought Thomas would be the #1 WR this week. Considering Thomas’ floor and ceiling, his output (5-62-1) was closer to his floor.
T.Y. Hilton ($6,400) – Wayne or Hilton? Wayne or Hilton? Based on the salary I had left these were the two options I was focusing on. Hilton is a boom or bust play so I locked him in for my GPP games. Add in the fact that he is playing an Eagles D that gives up the 3rd most points to WR’s, I was hoping for a little more boom than he showed. I was left to curse Bradshaw’s name all night long.
Starting Tight End
Zach Ertz ($5,600) – Ertz so good? I love Ertz’s potential in the Eagles’ offense, especially at his price across the industry. His price will continue to creep up making him more of a GPP play in the future. There are too many weapons in the Eagles’ high powered offense. He was a focal point last night, but unfortunately he did not find the endzone.
Starting Kicker
Nate Freese ($4,500) – Ah the variance of a kicker. Well that’s what I get for spending the minimum on a kicker. After seeing Detroit’s offense week 1, I thought Freese would have a few opportunities with a good Panthers’ defense halting a couple drives. Well…I was right, BUT you need a kicker who puts it between the uprights when given the opportunity! Son of a…
Starting Defense
Seahawks ($5,400) – Here is another lesson why you shouldn’t pay up for a defense. In my cash game lineup I saved money and bought the Redskins. I had the extra money to spend so I bought the Seahawks D. Apparently the 12th man may be the real deal. The Seahawks showed the are susceptible on the road. River and Gates jumped into the DeLorean and time warped back to 2008.
