League of Legends LPL/LCK DFS Preview: Friday, July 3rd

Slate Overview

I am a Top Esports stan. I joined the bandwagon early when JackeyLove first joined the team in the Spring Split. They are fun to watch and excellent at scoring fantasy points. But man, they sure do ruin slates. You could get low ownership on TES players towards the end of the Spring Split but those days are long gone. Now, TES is pure chalk essentially every slate they play and they’ll be chalk city again on Friday’s slate.

When TES plays, tournament strategy changes from “what’s the best way to handle the heaviest favorite” on the slate to “jam in a TES stack and pray you don’t split first place so many ways that you actually lose money.” That is for sure the case for Friday’s slate as TES has an implied win probability of 92% and owns the top per map kill total (16.5) on the slate by three kills. There are merits to completely fading TES in large-field tournaments but I am more interested in finding ways to differentiate my lineups while still grabbing exposure to TES. Potential strategies include less traditional lineup builds or strictly using TES players in two-man secondary stacks. I think three and four-man TES stacks have the highest probability of providing a path to optimal lineup construction but you’ll need to get creative with how you fill out the rest of your lineup unless you want to share your lineup with hundreds of other people.
