LineupHQ AMA with Nicole Valencia
Our own Nicole Valencia did a LineupHQ optimizer AMA in Discord on Friday. Here’s a transcript of the discussion. Plenty of great info in here! (some questions edited for clarity)
Can you elaborate on how The Situation Room and the new injury indicators in LineupHQ will intertwine? When I click on the “Q” by someone’s name, where will it take me? (from our own ameansy)
The full Situation Room contents will still live in the sidebar of LHQ. The current injury status is just displayed below a player’s name now, so the best way to flip back and forth would be in like a split screen.
When the builder fails, what are your recommended steps to try and fix on our end? (from Strategery)
This is a tough one because we don’t really see why it fails on the front-end. The first thing to do is disabled all groups and stacks and look for any build rules that are limiting. One other underutilized thing is the “Exposure Table” in the sidebar. This can show you if you have too much/too little specified in terms of individual player exposures.
If we say reset LeBron’s minutes to 0, do those 20 minutes get automatically adjusted to other players or does it only affect his projection? Also what about usage, does it get adjusted? Or only when done when an official adjustment to the projections is made? (from dbullsfan)
You can manually edit what you want for an individual player. That’s only changing his fpts that the builder uses. You can adjust a player’s minutes to 1 to see what our projections team has set his fantasy points per minute to for his upcoming matchup. The minutes trick is very cool. We will be adding the ability for users to save a set of their own projections and flip back and forth between RG’s, so that can be useful, too, but no, usage isn’t changing for teammates when you change LeBron’s fpts in LHQ.
How about building out game/team stacks for NBA? (from Strategery)
I keep trying to get “max player group exposure %” implemented and we keep getting distracted by shinier objects. This is coming soon and it will be awesome for all sports, but particularly for teammate rules in NBA/CBB/WNBA, etc.
I know you can alter minutes and points projections, but is it possible to alter a projection’s usage/rebounding rate/etc? (from TheHyperCritic)
I guess it is if you build your own model. The NBA projections team is actually bigger than the RG LHQ team, so maybe they can help us come up with cooler ways for you to adjust rate stats. You might be able to use CourtIQ to help you come up with fpts adjustments to make, but in LHQ we aren’t adjusting individual stat projections just yet.
How about an OR option for conditional formatting? i.e. if A or B or C individual then D group (from Strategery)
I think the max player group exposure % will help us solve this issue.
If I adjust a player’s point total to what my projection puts them at on a per minute rate, does the builder adjust floor and ceiling outcomes at the same rate (i.e. if I alter a player’s projection to be 1.08 per minute vs HQ default of 1.00, will my floor and ceiling outcomes bump by 8%)? (from TheHyperCritic)
Only minutes adjustments have any sort of impact on the fpts right now. Floor and Ceiling are editable fields, so you can update fpts, floor, ceiling all at the same time via a .csv file upload if you wish. We’re also looking at being able to build lineups off of the floor or ceiling column. The RG floor and ceiling values are not linear for all players and equidistant from the mean fpts, just FYI.
What are the main reasons in builds a player with suggested low ownership ends up highly owned in builds and vice versa? I find myself having to eliminate some players altogether to get where I need. (from Strategery)
Fpts projections.
