Matchup Analysis: EU LCS - Thursday

Article Image

Last week in the EU LCS we saw several very low scoring games along with several high scoring games highlighting the fact that picking the right matches to draft from is as important as picking strong players. Lets take a look at Thursday’s matches and see where we can expect to find fantasy points.

If you would like to see some specific player picks wazzu24 has some great recommendations here..

Matchups

These are in descending order from the best matchup to the worst.

G2 Esports (-165) vs. Giants Gaming (+135)
In terms of team points scored G2 came in at 3rd and 6th out of 20 last week. When looking at points allowed to other teams, Giants allowed the 4th and 7th most. This can be attributed somewhat to the teams that Giants and G2 faced last week, however, facing each other I only expect the number of fantasy points generated to go up, especially on the side of G2. Both sides of this matchup could score well, but I heavily favor G2.

Origen (-192) vs. Unicorns of Love (+156)
Origen had the misfortune of giving up both the most, and second most fantasy points last week, but while doing so they also put up some of the best scores in losing games. Unicorns players scored 4th and 8th highest while managing to hold their opponents to the bottom half of the points scored rankings. Both of these teams like to fight and this matchup could have non stop action generating a huge amount of fantasy points. A strong argument can be made for stacking either UoL or OG, it may even be worthwhile having a lineup of each. The only reason this lineup isn’t first is because G2 and Giants is more of a sure thing while this matchup comes with some variability.

Fnatic (+111) vs. H2k Gaming (-135)
Last week Fnatic scored the highest number of points in their win, and the 2nd lowest in their loss. H2K recorded the 2nd highest and 7th highest scoring games. Neither team allowed many fantasy points, though in true H2K fashion their wins were especially one sided, giving little to nothing to their opponents. Both of these teams have shown that they can be aggressive and score a huge number of points, while shutting their opponent down. This leaves us with a scenario where both teams could score very well, both could score very little, or one could have a breakout game and significantly outpace the other. I slightly favor H2K, but not by a large margin.

ROCCAT (-160) vs. Elements (+131)
Roccat allowed a large number of points in their loss, and gave up very few in their win. Unfortunately the points they scored in their win and loss were nearly identical and right in the middle of the pack. Elements scored well in their win, but very poorly in their loss. Their points allowed were also in the middle of the pack. Really neither of these teams impressed last week and neither appeared aggressive enough to score large amounts of points. There is likely some value to be found in ROCCAT, but not enough to base a lineup on.

Team Vitality (-278) vs. Splyce (+220)
Neither Vitality nor Splyce scored well last week, nor did they allow many points to their opponent. There is some upside in Vitality in that they have a very talented roster whose players have in the past been fantasy point superstars. Unfortunately, if Vitality plays up to their potential this game will be over too fast for many points to be accumulated as Splyce won’t be able to put up a fight.
