Friday, April 13th

We finally have a nearly full Friday night slate, with 13 games on tap for the Main Slate. It’s a very nice mix of pitching and hitting, with enough good options to spread ownership around, but not so many options that it can’t be broken down into tiers of top plays, secondary plays, etc. Basically, I like it! So, let’s get to work.

FRIDAY NIGHT PITCHING

The Top Ace

Gerrit Cole vs Texas – Because Cole has such a strong pedigree and has long been thought to have more upside, I’m more apt to believe a hot start for him then for some other pitchers. Certainly, the back-to-back 11 strikeout games are an outlier, but there’s no reason to think Cole can’t become a high-20’s strikeout guy, who knows, maybe even sniffing that 30% elite range. He’s always had a lively 96-mph fastball, and so far this season, he’s ramped up the sliders to 25%, helping with those strikeouts. There’s also the chance that Houston is just coaching him differently, wanting him to pitch for strikeouts.
