Friday, April 20th

This is going to be a busy Friday night, with all kinds of pitching and all kinds of offense to find. It becomes really difficult to break down these full slates, and I don’t want to go overboard just talking about every potential good spot. I’ll spend some time focusing on a handful of pitchers, including the obvious studs up top, and a couple tiers of other options. I’ve tried something new with the hitter analysis as there is just too much out there to go game by game.
With that, let’s jump into the pitching which is highlighted by a playoff caliber matchup in Los Angeles.

FRIDAY NIGHT PITCHING

DUELING ACESMax Scherzer at Clayton Kershaw

Well, this is awesome! As a fan of pitching, it doesn’t get much better than this. I have heard tell of folks who like to see offense, but for me, nothing beats a great pitchers duel. We should get that here tonight with two of the best. Max Scherzer has been absolutely lights out all season, and really for the past six seasons. He has a 38:4 K:BB ratio in 27 innings this season and has allowed just 14 hits and 4 ER. His 18.3% swinging strike rate is well above his already high 15.5% rate from last season, and there’s simply no reason to expect anything less than a strikeout rate in the mid-30% range every time he takes the mound.
