Monday, September 17th
Happy Monday! I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend, which may or may not have consisted of your football team of choice having a kicker with a pulse. Holy Toledo!
We’re down to two weeks to go in this baseball season, and things will get tougher and tougher to break down with each passing day. More and more teams are shifting to bullpen games, making the matchups difficult to decipher. We’re also in the time of the year when the already unpredictable starting lineups are more subject to players getting pulled later in the game, especially games that get out of hand. The thing I’ll say is that I will always assume that any player in the starting lineup is going to be taking every at bat seriously, and will be using the same tools for analysis as any other part of the season. I do not play the game of thinking that some players try harder than others, and some are just ready to go home for the off-season, while others are playing for their jobs, etc. Unless it’s something like an injury, or a pitcher wearing down from too many innings, trying to find a reason for short term hot or cold streaks is no more valuable now that it was in July.
With that in mind, let’s jump into the 12-game Monday slate. The first three games of the night in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh all may have some weather concerns, so keep an eye on the Roth report before locking in pitchers there. I’ll be on Crunch Time at 6:30 ET for final thoughts on the slate.
