MLB $400K Super Fastball Review: Tuesday, August 2nd

The Grinder review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for large slate and massive prize pool GPPs.

Today we looked at the $400K Super Fastball [$100K to 1st!] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $33.

Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game

At face value, ehafner’s ownerships don’t look like he would belong in this article. Every single pitcher he targeted over 4% exposure had a down night with his most heavily owned team stacks doing a bunch of nothing. The secret to his success was a SF/PHI stack that absolutely blew away expectations and landed him in a 1st place finish. His three phillies put up a combined 94 points at under 3% ownership each; THE BAT considered the top two considerable values: Aaron Altherr at $2300 projected for 7.02 points (3.05x), and Maikel Franco at $3000 projected for 7.57 points (2.52x). In such a top-heavy tournament, we can brush off his 8% cash rate when he brings home the bacon.

Ganondorf spread out his ownership even thinner and played at least one player from every team on the slate. Even so, he hit on some of his heavier team stacks and took home 4th and 26th place finishes (18% cash rate). He seemed to play a large percentage of contrarian stacks, relatively fading the Rockies while going heavy on the Padres, Marlins, and the Astros.

Rayofhope, who maxed out 150 entries like the others, took a slightly different approach ala Saahil. He faded 15 teams completely (for hitters) while heavily loading up on the Red Sox, Rockies, Dodgers (at Coors), Cardinals, and Giants. While the Rockies, Cardinals, and Giants panned out nicely, he had a slew of top 50 finishes and finished with a 31.3% cash rate. However he was nearly void of Phillies and a 9th place finish still barely cracks a 4-figure payout.

Single-Entry Winner of the Game

Youngjj1023 nearly mirrored ehafner’s winning lineup, but managed to trade Jacob deGrom and Aaron Altherr for Cameron Rupp (THE BAT projected value at 2.33x) and Hunter Pence. It didn’t work out so bad for him as he still snagged a 5th place finish, but ‘what could have been’ will haunt him for a while as it does most of us.

Single-Entry vs. ehafner/ganondorf/rayofhope

Out of 14,012 entries in the Super Fastball, 3163 of those entries (22.6%) were entered courtesy of players using a single bullet. The table below compares the exposures of those single entries to the exposures of ehafner, ganondorf, rayofhope, and 40 other top professionals picked off of RotoGrinders’ leaderboard:
