MLB Big Events: Grinders Dominate the Tuesday Q's

It was a busy Tuesday night across the industry, with FanDuel, DraftStreet and DraftKings running qualifiers along with the typical group of big GPP’s. To lead things off, I’d like to congratulate whits23 and 3rd_and_schlong for taking down the DSBC and DFBC qualifiers last night in impressive fashion. Both guys were big on the Colorado and Detroit bats, and we’re able to save enough on pitching to afford a bevy of big bats from those two teams. Without further ado, let’s get into the tournament breakdowns..

FanDuel $535 DFBC Qualifier

With just 98 entries, it might not take a perfect lineup to secure the trip to Vegas and shot at $1,000,000 (compared to over 4,100 entries in the $10 Q), but you still need to be pretty damn close. 3rd_and_schlong (181st on the MLB Grinder leaderboard) put together a hitter-heavy lineup with Robbie Ray (a SP against the Astros for $3,000), which worked out beautifully considering Ray was able to post 13.33 FP’s against the lowly Houston offense. He hit on most of the night’s big bats, which consisted of Miguel Cabrera, Drew Stubbs, Carlos Gonzalez and Giancarlo Stanton all exceeding value… even his secondary contributors put up solid stat lines (Beltre homered and Kinsler racked up three hits.. both finished with around 5 FP’s). Once again, congratulations to 3rd_and_schlong and best of luck in Vegas! PrimeTime420 (5th TPOY, 9th overall) was right on his heels in 2nd place, but the top two lineups were so similar that it was tough for PrimeTime to make up any ground once Shin-Soo Choo was pulled for a pinch-runner. FantasyAlarm (757th on the MLB Grinder leaderboard) and varncass (31st on the MLB Grinder leaderboard, 61st overall) also finished in the top ten. Here’s last night’s DFBC winning lineup:

DraftStreet DSBC $109 Qualifier

Big ups to whits23 (45th overall, 78th on the MLB Grinder leaderboard) for putting up over 118 points on DraftStreet last night to give himself a chance at becoming a millionaire in the early September DSBC final! His lineup was truly a work of art; he spent just over $31K on his three starting pitchers, which probably isn’t even possible on some nights because of how much DraftStreet has jacked up the cost of pitching, but was able to pull out more then 38 points from them thanks to Henderson Alvarez shutout. He rostered a few value bats (Matt Carpenter and Drew Stubbs were both under $6K, and he also spent just $2,500 on Gerald Laird) to allow him to pay up for Miggy, Blackmon, CarGo and Hanley, all of whom reached double digit fantasy points. Fellow Grinder tshirt also crossed the century mark in FP’s, but had to settle for 2nd place. He went with a similar strategy in terms of pitching(he spent about the same amount on his 3 SP’s, and also was extremely successful with the three he chose), but just wasn’t able to overcome the big number whits put up. PrimeTime420 had entries in 3rd, 4th and 6th place, and it’s only a matter of time before he qualifies for another live event. Bronzesword (aka Varncass) and GoodMR finished in 7th and 10th place to round out the RG members. Here’s the lineup that not only won last night’s DSBC qualifier, but was also the highest scoring of the night on DraftStreet:

FanDuel $125K Monster

rg%20misc%20fdmon125

Congratulations to gcove101 (fhlbtrs on RG, 662nd on the MLB Grinder leaderboard) for taking down the Monster on Tuesday night! He basically stacked the Rockies and Tigers with Robbie Ray on the hill, which allowed him to load up on the big bats from both teams. 3rd_and_schlong finished in 2nd place with the same lineup that won him the DFBC qualifier, so he had himself quite a night on FanDuel. Swaglet (191st in the TPOY rankings) finished just .08 points behind 2nd place to take home a cool $8K. He spent a little more on pitching compared to the 1st and 2nd place entries, but solid performances out of Edwin Jackson and his value bats set him up nicely. 2013evox (bxtonybx on RG), primetime420, hoopsheaven and headchopper also placed near the top of the leaderboard.

DraftKings $100K Perfect Game

rg%20misc%20dkso56

Ewjohnson_tha_first (493rd overall) was our best finisher in 3rd place, which was worth $5K in last night’s Strikeout. He hit on the night’s top pitcher in Henderson Alvarez, and teaming him up with Robbie Ray at pitcher allowed him to spend on the Detroit/Colorado big bats. Oxfordcomma (nrberkeley on RG, 442nd overall) finished in 5th place with big games from Alvarez and Miggy to go along with his under-owned gems in Brandon Belt and Salvador Perez. Swaglet, CSURAM88 and tigjack also finished in the top ten.

DraftKings $500K Fantasy Baseball Championship Qualifier – $27

rg%20misc%20dk27q56

DraftKings ran three separate Showcase Qualifiers last night with varying buy-ins, so we’ll quickly recap the winners of those events. In the $27 qualifier, headchopper was oh so close to taking down a Showcase Golden Ticket, but he’ll have to settle for a few Legends Series tickets as a nice consolation. Tigjack and smadog also picked up Legends Series tickets.

DraftKings $500K Fantasy Baseball Championship Qualifier – $109

rg%20misc%20dk109q56

Headchopper picked up two more Legends Series tickets in this one, as did bubbleboy (PatJZ80 on RG), tshirt, kingspoint11, BlairWalshProject (kraft115 on RG) and crackmonkey83.

DraftKings $500K Fantasy Baseball Championship Qualifier – $200

rg%20misc%20dkq20056

Headchopper was able to pick up a Showcase Golden Ticket in this one, thanks to a successful Rockies stack and a complete game shutout from Henderson Alvarez, who completely stifled the Mets offense. Pitchers shutting down the Mets is something we’ve grown accustomed to, but a $6,500 pitcher picking up almost 40 FP’s isn’t something we see very often. Chop finished more then 27 points ahead of the 2nd place finisher, kcannon, who picked up a Legends Series ticket for his efforts. Crackmonkey83, TheTakeOVER and driverseati all finished in the top five and picked up Legends Series tickets.
