MLB Big Events: Recapping the DFBC

The FanDuel DFBC took place this past weekend, and it was a truly memorable weekend for everyone involved. If you missed it, check out the new-and-improved RotoGrinders Championship Coverage for awesome live updates, photos, videos and more. From Ricky Henderson’s appearance to the Coors Field water-main break (not to mention the Justin Morneau late-scratch), the weekend was full of highs and lows for the various contestants. Regardless of the outcome, an event like this is something the participants will remember forever, unless of course they spent the majority of their winnings at the bar later that night. We were fortunate enough to see one of our own take down the $1,000,000 top prize; cheeseisgood (RG username Stuntflying) not only avoided the Coors Field game, but caught big games from David Ortiz and David Price. Let’s take a look at how some of our other members fared this weekend..

Cheeseisgood

Outside of the big games from Ortiz and Price, he was clearly able to hit on some other players that produced at a high-level on Saturday. Howie Kendrick picked up three hits (including a HR) on his way to an 8.75 FP night, and Daniel Nava was an excellent low-cost option at $2,300; he was able to deliver 3 hits and 2 RBI’s for a total of 5.75 FP’s. Kole Calhoun, Danny Valencia and Erick Aybar also helped to lead cheeseisgood to victory. Here’s an interview with the champion shortly after the DFBC came to an end..

Ganondorf

Ganondorf was the second best RG finisher in tonight’s DFBC, finishing in 4th place with a score of 47.5. He was hung out to dry by Mesoraco and Dickerson in Colorado, but the rest of his lineup was impressive. He had the stones to roll out Wade Miley against the Marlins, a move that paid off from a $/pt perspective with Miley delivering a 15 FP effort. His Red Sox stack, which included David Ortiz, was the biggest reason for his success.

Kingofqueens

Kingofqueens stayed right on ganondorf’s tail with a 13 FP effort from Jon Niese and an identical Red Sox stack. Ortiz was the road to the money tonight and both of these guys were firmly entrenched in the top of the leaderboard after his big night.

Jaydontpay

Jaydontpay was the life of the party for awhile and was cleary a fan favorite as his sweats were genuinely fun to watch. He dealt with some bad luck in Coors, but was able to overcome it with strong nights from Ortiz, Jon Niese and Howie Kendrick. Jay might have dealt with the Coors situation better then anyone else, as he realized these things happen in sports and was able to enjoy his time at the DFBC despite the bad luck.

Lovesbases

Lovesbases was arguably struck just as hard by the Coors Field PPD, as he had four players in that game and put together a very strong lineup outside of that game. David Price and a Red Sox stack was all he had in play after the PPD, so he would have certainly been in the running for the top prize had that game actually played out. This guy is a truly great player and redemption could be coming for him in Atlantis next week.

TommyG1979

You have to feel for the guy.. Like lovesbases, he put together a masterpiece around his CIN/COL exposure, but wasn’t able to cash in on it (relatively speaking) like he had hoped to. Tommy will have another shot at glory next weekend at the PBC!

In case you missed our coverage this weekend, here’s the awards presentation, conducted by FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles and Kay Adams.
