MLB Daily Grind Down May 22nd Day Games
Another frustrating Tuesday night for me in the qualifiers. Came up just short in the Draftstreet Q and was nowhere near the Fanduel Q, but big congrats to rickmilitar and Stlcardinalsfan84 for taking them down! Today we have quite a few days games, so let’s break those down first:

Pitchers
- Home Paul Maholm has been very good at home this season. While he hasn’t been very good on the road, we don’t have to worry about those numbers. At home, he is 2-1, with a 1.83 ERA and a WHIP just above 1. Looks like the Twins are resting both Mauer and Plouffe today so that really helps his value. Plus a win should be in store. Target
- Away Vance Worley has been one of the favorite pitchers to stack against so far this season, but he has pitched better over the past couple weeks. The Twins pitching is just terrible though. A matchup against the likes of Heyward, Upton, Freeman, and Gattis who all have big power is not the best one for Worley. Avoid
Batters
- Home The Braves stack didn’t quite workout last night, but they still produced 5 runs and I think we can expect a similar performance from them today. Freddie Freeman and Dan Uggla both have had success off of Worley and I think both of the Upton brothers are in a good spot as well.
- Away The Twins lineup looks awfully weak today. You can take that as a better chance that they won’t produce or you can see it as the team having value. I think I am going to avoid.
Cincinnati at NY Mets
| Cincinnati | NY Mets | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Pitchers
- Home Right when I saw the line, I knew that Matt Harvey was taking the mound today. He has been an absolute beast for the Mets with a 1.55 ERA and 10 K’s per 9 innings. While there are a couple of Reds in Votto and Choo that crush righties, I just don’t see anyone really getting a hold of Harvey. Great play again today. Target
- Away This one should be a pitcher’s duel as Mat Latos takes the mound against one of the worst offenses in baseball. Expect this game to be all about pitching. The Mets have been able to provide run support for Harvey though so we will see if they can keep that up today. In Play
Batters
- With Harvey and Latos on the mound, I think it’s best to stay away from all hitters in this one.
LA Dodgers at Milwaukee

Pitchers
- Home Wily Peralta has been awful after a really good season last year. His ERA is 5.94 and he is only averaging 5 K’s per 9 innings. Worst of all is that he has really been bad at home where he really pitched well last season. I think he will turn it around, but I’m going to wait for it to happen before I use him. Avoid
- Away Hyun-Jin Ryu is a high strikeout pitcher that has really had problems with his command and walking batters. While he does have decent upside, he also has a big downside facing the Brewers in Miller Park. The Brewers love facing lefties, especially at home. Avoid
Batters
- Home I think both offenses are in play today. Matt Kemp continues to frustrate every Grinder out there but continues to remain a great value play. Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez also look to be in good spots as they get the lefty/righty splits in their favor.
- Away The Brew Crew love to face lefties. Braun, Gomez, and Lucroy are all much better against lefties and are all in play today batting 3,4,5. Rickie Weeks is still as cheap as they come, but he strikes out too much for me.
Oakland at Texas

Pitchers
- Home Just a quick look at the line will tell you that the pitchers in this one are not the guys that you want to target. I’ve never even heard of Ross Wolf so I’m going to say it’s safe to avoid him. Avoid
- Away Jarrod Parker has been bad this year and a matchup against the Rangers in Arlington isn’t going to fix that. Expect the opposite performance that you saw from Straily last night. Avoid
Batters
- Home Stack or mini stack both teams in this game. The Rangers bats are all in play today, but make sure not to put Mitch Moreland in because he is not in the lineup.
- Away I’m looking for a big day from the A’s offense. Cespedes, Moss, Donaldson, and Smith should all be on your radar. Crisp also looks to be a good play, but his price is always just too much to justify.
Arizona at Colorado
| Arizona | Colorado | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coors Field | 3:10 PM | ||||||
| Trevor Cahill – (3-4), 2.48 ERA, 6.67 K/9, 1.17 WHIP | Jorge De La Rosa – (5-3), 3.58 ERA, 5.21 K/9, 1.29 WHIP | ||||||

Pitchers
- Home If you saw these numbers without seeing the name of the pitcher, you would seriously consider taking him: He is 3-0 with a 2.65 ERA at home. Now when I tell you that the pitcher is Jorge De La Rosa and that his home field is Coors Field, there is no way you would take him right? I agree. Avoid
- Away Trevor Cahill has really managed to keep his ERA down this season which is really impressive considering half of his starts are in Arizona. But, two issues with Cahill today. The first is his low K rate and the second is that he will be pitching in Coors Field where I refuse to take pitchers. Sure there are good pitching performances every once in a while, why take that big of a risk? Avoid
Batters
- Home Check the lineup as the Rockies love to switch theirs around, but the likes of Dexter Fowler, Eric Young, Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, and Wilin Rosario all look to be in play.
- Away You are going to have to pay a premium to get Paul Goldschmidt on your team today, but this is one of the times when he may be worth it. Goldy is batting .300 against lefties but in those 15 hits, he has 5 HR’s and 4 doubles so when he gets a hold of it, watchout. Cody Ross is another guy to take against lefties.
