MLB Daily Plays: Sun, Sep 28

The regular season is winding down and hopefully one of your teams is still in the fight. Today we will look at some of the players you want to take a look at when making your Sunday lineups.

NOTE – There will be no Grind Down today.

STARTING PITCHER

Felix Hernandez – Seattle Mariners – King Felix should be your pitcher on any one-pitcher site today. The Mariners are in a must-win situation and the Angels are likely to field a pretty weak team with the chance to keep the A’s out of the playoffs with a loss. He should pitch deep into the game and will have his usual high K total. On a day with a lot of aces going, he still stands as the best DFS option.

Zack Greinke – Los Angeles Dodgers – Greinke will be taking on the Rockies, who have to be one of the worst road teams in the league. Vegas has the Dodgers as a heavy favorite today with a low over/under, and Greinke should have one of the higher point totals when it is all said and done.

GPP Option: Bartolo Colon (NYM)

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy – Milwaukee Brewers – The NL Central is full of solid offensive catchers, but none of them are as consistent as Lucroy. He also has a very solid matchup against Jacob Turner and his 6.25 ERA. Posey is going to be a popular choice today facing a southpaw, but I would roll with Lucroy.

GPP Option: Stephen Vogt (OAK)

Top Punt/Value: Carlos Ruiz (PHI)

FIRST BASE

Miguel Cabrera – Detroit Tigers – Miggy and the Tigers will be facing Kyle Gibson today, who has really faded in the second half with a 5.32 ERA. You don’t really need a reason to roster Miggy, but he is in a plus matchup and has been hitting for more power in September. There are always great options at 1B and today is no exception. If you can’t grab Cabrera, then take a look at Jose Abreu or Adrian Gonzalez.

GPP Option: Matt Adams (STL)

Top Punt/Value: Adam Lind (TOR)

SECOND BASE

robinson-cano-300x200

Robinson Cano – Seattle Mariners – This is a must-win situation for the Mariners today and I expect their offense to be ready. Rasmus has pitched well, but the Angels should not have their heart in this game (basically they could easily lay down here). Cano has been pretty consistent all year long and offers the XBH potential we want from our 2B.

GPP Option: Brian Dozier (MIN)

Top Punt/Value: Daniel Murphy (NYM)

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria – Tampa Bay Rays – He was pretty average this year against RHP but still had really solid numbers against lefties. House has struggled getting right-handed bats out, allowing a wOBA over .350 and OPS over .800, so this should be a great matchup for Longo.

GPP Option: Kyle Seager (SEA)

Top Punt/Value: Aramis Ramirez (MIL)

SHORTSTOP

Hanley Ramirez – Los Angeles Dodgers – Hanley is trending up heading into the playoffs, although there is still some concern with the lack of power. The Dodgers have a great matchup against Christian Bergman, and we should see the big names putting up big scores. He hasn’t hit a HR in September, but don’t be surprised if he puts a couple in the gap or sends one out this afternoon.

GPP Option: Jhonny Peralta (STL)

Top Punt/Value: Jed Lowrie (OAK)

OUTFIELD

coco-crisp-300x200

Matt Kemp – Los Angeles Dodgers – As you can see by the picks above I really like the Dodgers to score some runs this afternoon. I imagine they are pretty glad they kept the star OF through all of the trade rumors. He has been one of the better hitters the Dodgers have and will be key in their playoff run this season. He has seven doubles, eight HR, and 23 RBI to go with a .307 batting average in September, and he’s facing a below average pitcher.

Coco Crisp – Oakland Athletics – He has not been great in September, but will have the perfect opportunity to turn that around today against Nick Martinez. Crisp has a ton of upside as he can fill up the stat sheet, and the A’s will likely put some runs on the board. This is a bit of a risk with his recent play, but I really like him today as one of the top OF options.

GPP Option: Bryce Harper (WAS)

Top Punt/Value: Scott Van Slyke (LAD)
