MLB DFS - Million Dollar Musings - Monday, August 3rd

Happy Monday! Though it’s only an 8-game slate, it is loaded on all sides. We’ve got a couple of the best pitchers in the league, along some decent mid-range options, but also Coors Field and at least two other obvious high end offenses. On DK specifically, the salary cap is very tough and will make for some interesting choices tonight. Let’s get right to it.

THE THREE ACES – Cole, deGrom, Buehler

Gerrit Cole vs Phillies – Through two starts, Cole has been great again, but not yet up the elite level he showed in 2019. With just 12 innings under his belt, and one of the starts cut short by rain, there’s really not enough here to dig into to make any case that he is not the same pitcher we saw last year. If you want to pick things apart, the swinging strikes are down at 11.3% (16.8% last season), explaining the difference between his current 27.3% K rate and the 39.9% of 2019. But again, 12 innings, plus it’s not like he’s been bad. We’re looking at a 12:3 K:BB ratio, that’s still an ace.
