Covering The Bases: MLB DFS Picks Today for Saturday 5/30

Long-time grinder Justin Van Zuiden (aka stlcardinals84) is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Justin has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks today on May 30, 2026.
Happy Saturday, Grinders! It’s hard to believe we are almost into the month of June, and the traditional baseball “dog days of summer” are approaching. We have the usual Saturday with games spread out at different times, but both FD and DK are giving us an 8-game main slate that starts at 4:05 PM Eastern. We then have a smaller 6-game evening slate. As always when we have slates of that size, I will cover both of those in the article.
The main afternoon slate looks to be a bit tricky today, with few aces on the mound but a lot of above-average pitchers. There are going to be plenty of games that project as 4-3 type contests today, and I would expect a lower-scoring slate. However, you just never know how things are going to play out in DFS, and that’s part of the beauty of it. The good news is that this looks to be a clear day on the weather front, so it should be all systems go for lineup building.
Let’s dive in and see what the start of the final weekend of May has in store for MLB DFS picks!
Saturday Afternoon Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

THE CLOSEST THING TO ACES – A TRIO OF YOUNG GUNS
- Michael King at Nationals
- Parker Messick vs. Red Sox
- Trey Yesavage at Orioles
As I mentioned in the introduction, this is the beginning of a tricky slate. We don’t have any long, established aces pitching today, but we do have some very intriguing young arms with this trio. Let’s begin with a look at the 2026 data:
King – 2.76 ERA, 3.85 xFIP, 25.4% K, 11.3% BB
Messick – 2.24 ERA, 3.07 xFIP, 28.0% K, 7.6% BB
Yesavage – 2.25 ERA, 3.80 xFIP, 27.3% K, 7.8% BB (32 innings)
My least favorite option from this group is going to be Michael King. While he may seem to have a good matchup on the surface, the Nationals have been better than most people think. They rank 11th in team wOBA against RHP and 2nd in team ISO against RHP this year, behind only the Yankees in that department. I certainly don’t expect them to keep up that pace, but the fact remains that they have surpassed all expectations so far. King also has a bloated 11.3% walk rate this year, and I just don’t see a need to play him today. Sure, you can keep him in some MME tournament builds if you want, but that’s the extent of my interest.
Parker Messick is going to be my preferred SP1 choice today. While I don’t think he can sustain his current 28% strikeout rate on a sub-12% swinging-strike rate, there’s something to be said for getting those swings and misses when you need them. He does a great job of keeping hitters off balance and has immense poise for a rookie. He has shut down good offenses all year, and now he gets a disappointing Red Sox group today. I’ll happily use Messick in any format.
Trey Yesavage falls in the middle of the other pitchers in this tier. He burst onto the scene late last season, and while he has missed some time due to injury this year, the early returns are positive, with an overall profile that is pretty similar to Messick’s. I just don’t like Yesavage’s matchup as much against an Orioles team that has looked much better in recent games offensively. If you can fit Yesavage and Messick together in a build on DK, that is certainly viable, but I will prioritize Messick.
In short, I am ranking this tier as Messick > Yesavage > King, and I feel pretty confident in that.
