Covering The Bases: MLB DFS Picks Today for Sunday 8/3
Long-time grinder, Justin Van Zuiden (aka stlcardinals84), is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks.
Happy Sunday, Grinders! We have a relatively small slate on DraftKings today, with just 6 games on the main slate. FanDuel has added all the late afternoon games to their main slate, giving us a much larger 11-game slate over there.
The slates look dramatically different between the sites, but DraftKings has the much larger prize pools. I hemmed and hawed for quite some time about how to best break things down, and I settled on this format. I will break down the DraftKings slate in the “normal” fashion that you are used to seeing, and I will then add thoughts on the additional FD games at the bottom of the article to complete the analysis. I think that works best today.
Sundays often give us some weird lineup decisions from managers, so keep an eye on our MLB Starting Lineups page to stay updated before lock. And as always, you can monitor the weather with our MLB weather page. Let’s dig in and see what today has to offer!

TOP TIER ACES
Jacob Misiorowski stands alone against the Nationals.
We were spoiled with a fun pitching slate yesterday. That has ended in a hurry. We are left with just one pitcher priced above $9,000 on the DK slate today, and it’s rookie flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski for the Brewers.
In his first 7 major league starts, the Miz has posted a 2.70 ERA with a 36.4% strikeout rate. However, his walk rate is up over 10%, and that means he can often rack up high pitch counts in a hurry. In addition, the Brewers are being very cautious with his pitch counts given that he is a rookie who will likely be a key piece of their playoff plans. He has thrown just 7 2/3 innings total over his last couple of starts, being pulled at 64 and 80 pitches in those outings. However, he struck out 7 in each game, and he still has upside if he is somewhat efficient.
A line of something like 5 innings with 6-8 strikeouts could very easily make him the highest-scoring pitcher on a thin slate for arms. As such, I am tagging him as my favorite “spend up” pitcher on DK. I’m not using him on FD, where we have additional high-end options (more on that later). I do not think that he is an absolute “must” play. My analysis on that would change if there’s a chance he gets to 90+ pitches, but I don’t see the Brewers doing that in a matchup against the Nationals.
