Million Dollar Musings: Friday, June 30

CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Friday! We’ve got a 12-game slate with some tangled messes on both sides of the ledger. The few top pitchers come with some question marks, and then we have a slew of pretty good pitchers, but none of whom stand out as ideal options. The two teams playing Coors Field are among the league’s weaker offenses, which leaves that game in a big jumble with basically everything else on the slate.
I’ll do my best to sort through the MLB DFS picks for tonight and give you my favorites, but just know going in that it’s a bit of play everybody kind of night.
Friday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

We have a bit of a strange pitching slate tonight. There are a ton of good pitchers, but the best ones come with some question marks, and then the good ones all come with some reason not to love them.
Top Tier Trio, Maybe
Shane McClanahan at Mariners – 26.7% K, 9.4% BB, 2.23 ERA, 3.96 SIERA
James Paxton at Blue Jays – 31.8% K, 6.5% BB, 3.19 ERA, 3.15 SIERA
Pablo Lopez at Orioles – 30.1% K, 6.8% BB, 4.41 ERA, 3.32 SIERA
I’m a little nervous about Shane McClanahan as the highest priced pitcher on this slate. His strikeouts and velocity have been dropping, prior to being pulled early from his last start with what is being called back tightness. If that’s all it was, and he just needed a little rest, well, maybe it’s all systems go. But I’m just not sure, because this was not just a one-start blip. He’s been dropping steadily for the past month, and hasn’t topped five strikeouts since May. I absolutely don’t know for sure one way or the other here, but I can tell you that I am not willing to jump on board here at $11,000.
James Paxton has a tougher matchup than McClanahan, and he also comes with a bit of a question mark. Paxton left his last start early with a knee injury, described simply ‘knee soreness’. If I have to choose between ‘knee soreness’ and ‘back tightness’, I’ll take the knee soreness, but we’re also getting no discount on Paxton and I just don’t love it.
