Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Monday 7/7
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Monday! This week kicks off with what appears to be a pretty tough 9-game slate. Essentially, almost all of the pitchers are pretty good…or at least not bad. That leaves us without a lot of offense to love, but we also don’t have a ton of clarity amongst all of those pitchers, with the couple of aces priced up appropriately.
It appears likely that the MLB weather is going to cooperate everywhere, and it also appears to be pretty neutral hitting weather across the board. This just adds to the muddled nature of this slate.

Monday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
At first glance, this looks like a slate where the salaries are more or less ‘correct,’ which leaves us with playable options in every pricing tier. There are a few differences in the salaries on FD, but I’m going to separate these tiers using DK pricing, which gives me four buckets to consider.
TOP TIER DUO
- Yoshinobu Yamamoto at Brewers – 28.6% K, 8.4% BB, 2.51 ERA, 3.22 SIERA
- Jacob deGrom at Angels – 25.9% K, 5.4% BB, 2.13 ERA, 3.32 SIERA
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jacob deGrom are up in their own pricing tier, both over $10,000 on both sites. Before considering anything else we have on this slate, I’d say their salaries look just about right. By that I mean they are worth this salary, but they are also not any sort of must-play.
Between the two of them, I consider Jacob deGrom to be the more consistent, trustworthy ace, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto, in theory, should have the higher ceiling. But the reality has been that even with Yamamoto getting 100-ish pitches and deGrom getting 85-90, deGrom is getting just as many innings and strikeouts in most starts. We have seen much more sporadic performances from Yamamoto, and I really don’t love him at this salary in an average (at best) matchup. Of course he’s playable, and I wouldn’t even argue the slightest bit with anyone who has him as their SP1. I simply think deGrom is a little better right now, and while the matchups are close, there are more strikeouts for deGrom.
But even as I say that, when I get picky, deGrom is not striking out many righties this season, and the Angels are a very right-handed lineup, so I also don’t see deGrom as any sort of must-play.
Where I land here overall is that on DK, I prefer deGrom over Yamamoto, while on FD, I really don’t think I’m going to play a lot of either of them. $11,200 is a bit much for deGrom, and $10,600 for Yamamoto is fine, but there are plenty of cheaper things that I like.
If we lived in a world with no salary cap, these guys would be SP1 and SP2, but as it is, I’m just going to have a moderate amount of deGrom on DK and a moderate amount of both on FD.
