Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Monday 6/23
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Monday! We kick off the week with an 8-game slate that looks heavily slanted towards offense. The weather remains hot and hitter-friendly in most locations, and there is not a single pitcher on the slate above 26% strikeouts this season. I will try to narrow things down as much as possible, but at first glance, I see about 15 offenses that I want to stack early and often, with no separation between them.
Let’s dive in and see what we can pull out of this mess and then wait for those MLB starting lineups to roll in throughout the day.

Monday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
There are two standout pitchers on the slate, and as you’d expect, they are in their own salary tier as well.
TOP TIER DUO
- Spencer Schwellenbach at Mets – 24% K, 4.2% BB, 3.26 ERA, 3.22 SIERA
- Bryan Woo at Twins – 22.3% K, 4% BB, 3.12 ERA, 3.59 SIERA
The two best pitchers on this slate are both priced just a skosh below $10,000 on both sites, and both of them have what I would consider to be tougher-than-average (though not terrible) matchups. We can also look at these two skill sets and see immediately that they are both more in the ‘better in real life’ category compared to what we would find up on top on a lot of other slates.
Bryan Woo has not topped 6 strikeouts in any of his last 8 starts, but he is also piling up easy innings with his elite control. We’ve seen a few games where home run issues have crept in, with 3 straight starts where he allowed 2 HRs (on May 30th, June 5th, and June 11th). The underlying metrics would suggest that he should only have power issues against lefties and also that he gets whatever upside he has when facing righties. The Twins will most likely end up using 4 lefties but also 7 lower-strikeout bats overall. I always expect Woo to be good, and a quality start is always the most likely outcome. He’s fine, and I’d gladly play him in any lineup, but I’m also not seeing this as any sort of must-play that I’m going out of my way for.
The full-season numbers show Spencer Schwellenbach just a tad ahead of Woo in strikeout ability, but over his last 5 starts, we’ve seen Schwellenbach hit a new level, with 8+ strikeouts in 4 of those 5 starts. Combining with what we saw last season, I’m viewing Schwellenbach as more of a 25-26% K pitcher with upside potential, putting him ahead of Woo in raw skill set. His splits are even more dramatic than Woo’s, with a 29.4% K rate this season against righties and the same middling 19% range against lefties. That gives us an obvious issue here, as the Mets will likely use 6-7 lefties against him, and the majority of hitters in their lineup are lower-strikeout bats. While it’s extremely close, I prefer to lean into the recent form of Schwellenbach ahead of Woo as my SP1, but I will mostly mix-and-match them.
The bigger picture is that while these are clearly the two best pitchers, I’m not crazy enough about either of them to prioritize them. Let’s see what we find next – as well as with the bats – before deciding how heavily to invest in this top tier duo.
