Million Dollar Musings: Thursday, April 13

CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Thursday! After a very busy few days to start the week, we get a bit of a breather with just a 5-game main slate tonight. Unlike the last few days, we don’t have Coors Field, we don’t have Wrigley wind and we don’t have multiple ace pitchers. It’s a whole bunch of kind-of-OK on both sides of the ledger tonight, so let’s jump on in and take a look at some MLB DFS picks for this Thursday night.
Thursday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

We have an ace-less slate, with the possible exception of Nick Lodolo who is seeing his strikeouts take another step up two starts into the season. I have seven pitchers in my pool to start the day, so let’s see how we can sort through this group.
Nick Lodolo vs. Phillies – 30.9% K, 8.7% BB, 3.43 ERA, 3.19 SIERA
Chris Bassitt vs. Tigers – 21.8% K, 6.8% BB, 3.77 ERA, 3.88 SIERA
Jordan Montgomery vs. Pirates – 22% K, 5.1% BB, 3.40 ERA, 3.63 SIERA
Joe Ryan at Yankees – 25.7% K, 7.7% BB, 3.57 ERA, 3.90 SIERA
Nick Martinez vs. Brewers – 20.8% K, 9.6% BB, 3.74 ERA, 4.17 SIERA
Jhony Brito vs. Twins
Bailey Falter at Reds – 20.3% K, 4.4% BB, 3.72 ERA, 4.00 SIERA
Nick Lodolo stands out quite clearly in strikeout rate before even factoring in his 41.2% K rate to open this season. That includes striking out 12 Phillies last week in seven shutout innings. Almost as impressive as the strikeouts are back-to-back starts over 105 pitches to start the year. That is one of the longest leashes in the league, which combined with the strikeouts make him the clear SP1 on this slate. There is certainly some power risk for him at home, but the Phillies are not exactly packed with right-handed power. FanDuel has him priced way up ahead of the field, as he should be, while $9,400 on DK is easy to fit. I’ll be close to lock button on DK, but FD will be more salary dependent.
