Million Dollar Musings: Thursday, August 3

CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Thursday! We have a similar setup to yesterday with a smaller 4-game early slate at 2:05 PM ET, followed by the 6-game main slate at 7:15 PM ET. I’ll mainly focus on the evening slate, but we’ll kick things off with a quick look at some MLB DFS picks for this afternoon fiesta, which I very much hope to follow with a siesta.
Before I jump into the early slate analysis, be sure to come join myself and a handful of other RotoGrinders personalities in our Discord today at 4:00 PM ET for a Live Final Q&A. We’ll be hanging out in the MLB channel talking Live Finals, DFS, and favorite ice cream flavors. Hope to see you there!

Thursday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

This early slate is headlined by two aces, followed by a sizeable drop-off to all the leftovers.
Kevin Gausman vs. Orioles – 33% K, 6.2% BB, 3.10 ERA, 3.00 SIERA
Max Scherzer vs. White Sox – 27.3% K, 6.8% BB, 4.01 ERA, 3.81 SIERA
There is a huge gap between these two aces and everyone else. The first thing I’ll say is that, if it’s at all possible to just play these two in every lineup and be done with it, that’s what I’m going to do. I will absolutely not overthink it if the salary is not needed.
Now, on FD, you can only play one anyway, and realistically, some, if not most, DK lineups will only be able to afford one. The full season numbers firmly favor Gausman, and while Scherzer has shown plenty of signs of returning to ace-dom, Gausman remains the more consistent strikeout pitcher. I do prefer the matchup for Scherzer, but it’s close-ish enough that, if the salary is no issue, Gausman is my SP1. Both of these aces have 100+ pitch upside with quality starts and better than a strikeout-per-inning as the expectations. We’ve simply seen a few more big games for Gausman, so that’s what I’m leaning on.
