Happy Thursday! We’ve got baseball scattered throughout the day, leaving us with just a 6-game main slate on DK and a 5-game main slate on FD. Be sure to note that DK is starting a few minutes earlier than usual at 6:45 PM ET to include the CLE/BOS game, while FD starts at 7:05 PM ET without that game. I find it wildly entertaining that for 25 weeks, FD has been the site that always chooses to start a few minutes early, with DK waiting for the regular start time and leaving off the extra games, and then they decide to swap it around with two days left in the season. Just for fun!

It is also very interesting to note that the pitchers on teams that have clinched were not at all limited last night. Chris Sale going 97 pitches was a moderate surprise, while Gerrit Cole going 105 pitches was borderline stunning. I’m still going to plan for a slight pullback in some of these workloads tonight, but I’m also a little more open to the idea that it’s essentially just business as usual for these teams.

Thursday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

I’m going to list 10 pitchers here, but I’m really only ending up with a small handful in primary lineups tonight:

• Cam Schlittler vs. Rays – 31.3% K, 6.3% BB, 1.94 ERA, 2.93 SIERA
• Tyler Glasnow vs. Padres – 33% K, 8.7% BB, 3.46 ERA, 3.05 SIERA
• Ian Seymour at Yankees – 29% K, 6.7% BB, 4.38 ERA, 3.16 SIERA
• Bryan Woo vs. Angels – 24.4% K, 5.3% BB, 3.92 ERA, 3.59 SIERA
• Nick Pivetta at Dodgers – 29.2% K, 5.8% BB, 3.30 ERA, 3.27 SIERA
• Ranger Suarez vs. Guardians (DK) – 22.8% K, 7.6% BB, 3.27 ERA, 3.96 SIERA
• Tyler Mahle vs. Reds – 22.5% K, 7.4% BB, 3.81 ERA, 3.98 SIERA
• Joey Cantillo at Red Sox (DK) – 25% K, 11.8% BB, 3.74 ERA, 4.23 SIERA
• Peter Lambert at A’s – 22.9% K, 8.9% BB, 3.70 ERA, 4.21 SIERA
• Grayson Rodriguez at Mariners – 19.7% K, 9% BB, 5.96 ERA, 4.53 SIERA

Cam Schlittler and Tyler Glasnow are in a tier of their own up top, but that is also very much reflected in the salaries, with a massive gap between them and everyone else on both sites. After seeing the Yankees let Gerrit Cole go 105 pitches and the Dodgers letting Yoshinobu Yamamoto go 6 innings and 88 pitches last night, it’s reasonable to think that these two aces could have full workloads tonight. I’m still a little skeptical, but I think the safe assumption is they are allowed to go at least 90 pitches, which still leaves them as the top two pitchers on this slate. Neither of them have good strikeout matchups, though at their best, they are both matchup proof as well. While I would say Schlittler is the better real-life pitcher, Glasnow is still the higher strikeout ace, and I slightly prefer Glasnow’s matchup here. On top of that, Glasnow is $1,000 cheaper on DK and $500 cheaper on FD. This makes for a pretty clear choice if spending up to go with Glasnow as the SP1. Let’s see what else we find on this slate, and then determine if spending up is a priority.

At first glance, I would expect Bryan Woo to be the clear chalk on both sites. He’s only $8,500 on DK and $9,200 on FD, with the great home matchup against the Angels. He has been very up and down, but almost all the downs have come on the road, as he carries a 2.36 ERA with a 28.9% K rate and just 4.9% walks at home. The Angels are the highest-strikeout team in the league against righties, and on top of that, their best hitters are right-handed, where Woo is a far better pitcher. I’m very on board with Woo as the popular SP1, and I’ll play him ahead of Schlittler and Glasnow with that salary gap.

Ian Seymour was originally scheduled to pitch last night, but he was pushed back to tonight, which should line him up better to be on regular rest for the postseason. I have more questions about the Rays’ willingness to let their pitchers go deep than I do with any other teams, so he’s the one I’m going to leave out of my primary pool tonight for that reason.
