Happy Wednesday! Both sites are starting a little earlier than usual at 6:35 PM ET, giving us a 10-game slate with a whole bunch of everything. It’s a similar setup to last night, where we have a very clear top three pitchers and offenses, but still plenty more to like beyond that, especially on the hitting side. There’s also some other sport starting tonight, but I can’t remember what it is, so let’s talk baseball!

Wednesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

Like yesterday, we have three aces who are priced up ahead of everyone else on this slate. The drop-off to the next tier is not quite as extreme as what we had yesterday, but it’s still a very clear dividing line.

TOP TIER TRIO

• Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. Reds – 25.4% K, 6% BB, 2.67 ERA, 3.42 SIERA
• Cristopher Sanchez vs. Astros – 27.5% K, 5.6% BB, 2.58 ERA, 2.85 SIERA
• Logan Henderson vs. Cubs – 30% K, 4.5% BB, 2.48 ERA, 3.08 SIERA

Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed 4 runs with a couple homers in his last start, but the strikeouts remained, and he now has 8+ strikeouts in each of his last 4 starts. Overall, he’s still a bit behind Logan Henderson in strikeout rate, but going all the way back to the beginning of July, Yamamoto is up at a 27.2% K rate, while Cristopher Sanchez is down at 25.6%. They are both consistent aces that I am happy to play in any lineup in any matchup, but I am a tad more interested in Yamamoto. This is a mix between the recent strikeout numbers and the higher-strikeout matchup for Yamamoto. The Reds do present a lot of power risk, but Yamamoto allows very little power, and even if he were to allow a home run or two, with his great control, it would hopefully be a solo homer that doesn’t matter all that much. I love the consistent innings to go along with the rise in strikeouts, and he’s my SP1 tonight.

Cristopher Sanchez is great, but he’s so rarely hitting anything close to a ceiling game that I’m struggling to be thrilled about him at this salary. He’s $600 more than Yamamoto on FD and $500 more on DK, and given that I prefer Yamamoto anyway, this makes things easier. Where it gets tricky is with Sachez vs. Logan Henderson. Sanchez has the longer track record, and I would say Sanchez has the better matchup tonight as well. However, Henderson is a higher-strikeout pitcher than Sanchez, he has better control, and very surprisingly, the pitch count and innings have been the same for both of them recently. The big difference between them is that Sanchez is a ground-ball pitcher, while Henderson is a fly-ball pitcher. This means Henderson has more power risk against the Cubs, but at the same time, fly balls lead to a lot of quick innings, with Sanchez is a bit more at the mercy of BABIP.
