Derek Farnsworth walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will be looking at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

Happy Friday everyone. I hope you all have had a great week so far and are ready to start the weekend on a good note. Fridays are always great for MLB DFS because we typically have all 30 teams in action and we typically have a big main slate. That’s the case again tonight, as 11 of the 15 games on the schedule are featured on the main slates on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

When looking for a team to stack in tournaments, there are a lot of factors at play outside of raw team totals. The biggest driver of fantasy production is home runs, so we want to focus on teams that have power in the lineup and teams that are facing pitchers that give up a lot of hard contact and home runs. We should also be looking at ballpark factors, how the stack fits into a lineup from a construction standpoint, and most importantly, ownership.

Here are a few stacks that you should consider tonight in your tournament builds.

There are two types of slates in MLB DFS — Coors Field slates and non-Coors Field slates. There really is a big difference, as the best hitter’s park in baseball soaks up so much ownership every time it’s featured on a slate. There’s certainly a good reason for the ownership, as Coors Field has yielded more runs, more hits, more doubles, and more triples than any park in baseball over the last three years. The ball travels farther in the altitude, the outfield was built to allow extra-base hits, and it’s hard for pitchers to curve the ball as much as usual. This all favors the hitters.
