MLB DFS Top Stacks: Monday, June 19
Keith Eyster walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!
MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.
In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.
We have a smaller seven-game main slate this Monday. Paying up for pitching is going to be a priority as the slate lacks upside options at the lower end of the pitching range. OWN% appears to be condensing around the hottest team in baseball.
Chalk Stack – Reds vs. Austin Gomber
The Reds are loaded with young talent and are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak. Today, they get a matchup with left-hander Austin Gomber. He owns a gaudy 7.29 ERA through 14 starts this season, with only a 14.5% strikeout rate and a 9.2% walk rate. Gomber has allowed over 48% hard contact and 2.16 HR/9.
We do need to keep an eye on the weather in this game, as there is a chance for rain. Stay tuned in to Kevin Roth’s “MLB Weather Report”:https://rotogrinders.com/weather/mlb for the latest updates.
The Reds are just an average offense when looking at season long numbers, with a .321 wOBA and 93 wRC+ this year. But keep in mind they have added young talent along the way at various points of the season. Matt McLain arrived in mid-May, while Elly de la Cruz has been in the big leagues for just a couple weeks. Longtime team leader Joey Votto back is expected to make his season debut today as well.
The Top Stacks tool gives the Reds the best OPTO% (around 17.5% both sites) on the slate by a wide margin. Their OWN% (around 18.5%) checks in just a bit above their chances of being the top stack, so we aren’t getting any leverage with them.
Assuming the weather holds up and does not alter the field’s willingness to roster the Reds, finding some differentiation in other spots of your lineup will be important if choosing to go with a full stack.
