Justin Carlucci walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

We have a silly little four-game slate tonight. However, it could quickly become a three-game slate due to potential weather issues regarding the Cleveland vs. Detroit game. You’ll need to keep an eye on Kevin Roth’s weather page throughout the day for updates. Let’s dive in and see what kind of magic we can come up with.

Popular Stack – Mets vs. Adam Wainwright

This matchup pops more than any other on the board and projected ownership reflects that. We only have four games to work with, and depending on the forecast, that number could change to three.

While anything is possible, I find it ridiculously hard to believe that Adam Wainwright would leave tonight’s game without at least a few bumps and bruises on the scoreboard against him. But he might need a much bigger bandaid.

Wainwright has enjoyed a fantastic career, but let’s be clear, the end is near. Waino is striking out just 11% of hitters while giving up a gross .243 ISO (.302 to lefties) and a .445 wOBA. He’s getting barreled almost 12% of the time…and things are just…not good. If you think those under-the-hood numbers are bad, the paint job on the outside look like an 8.78 ERA and a WHIP north of TWO!

Who are my favorite bats? All of them. Who will be owned? Probably all of them. Our top stacks tool projects New York as the highest-owned stack and the second (DK) and third (FD) highest chances to be optimal. Additionally, the tool projects New York to be the slate’s top value.

Anything goes on tonight’s tiny slate. If I don’t stack NYM, I will at least try to add in a mini stack or a one-off such as Alonso or Lindor who have slate-breaking upside. That being said, it’s Francisco Alvarez who leads the team in ISO (.303) against right-handed pitchers in 2023. The NYM catcher has been quiet for the last week or two, but he walks into the get-right spot of all get-right spots tonight.
