Justin Carlucci walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

Thursday’s MLB slate should be a ton of fun! One very talented offense is in a fantastic spot against a bad left-handed pitcher, while Mother Nature looks like it will certainly impact fantasy scoring in at least one other game. Let’s dive in and check it out.

Chalk Stack – Braves vs. Kyle Freeland

I could only imagine the projected ownership if this game was played at Coors Field. Regardless, via the RotoGrinders top stacks and values tool, the Braves are currently (and predictably) slated to check in at the highest pOWN% on both sites.

Freeland is yielding a .217 ISO and a 51% hard-hit rate (at a fairly high fly-ball rate) against right-handed batters this season. This could be a recipe for disaster for him, as Atlanta projects to start six righties tonight. Regardless, there are seven Braves starters with .250 ISOs or better against left-handed pitching this season.

One of the few (but elite) bats in the lineup who owns an ISO lower than that mark vs. southpaws this season is Matt Olson, who logged a more than respectable .177 against them in 2022. Whether it was intentional or not, this lineup is built to mash lefties, and it should be on full display tonight.

Ronald Acuna Jr. has an incredible 69% hard-hit rate against lefties dating back to the beginning of 2022, which (jokingly) makes Sean Murphy’s 61% look pedestrian. There’s no doubt these Braves have a super high ceiling, but you’ll need to compliment them with a sneaky secondary stack to be a bit different.
