MLB DFS Top Stacks: Thursday, June 29
Justin Carlucci walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!
MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.
In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.
There are games scattered throughout Thursday, but the main slates on both sites begin during the typical evening window on the east coast. There are only five games starting at 7:07 p.m. ET with a Coors Field game featuring the Dodgers and a bad pitcher on the mound. There will be some mega chalk, so let’s dive in and figure out a game plan.
Chalk Stack – Dodgers at Chase Anderson
It can’t get much better than the Dodgers at Coors, can it?
In fact, it can. Los Angeles will do battle against 35-year-old Chase Anderson, who is striking out just 15% of hitters and yielding a .236 ISO to hitters this season. Additionally, Kevin Roth’s WeatherEdge tool labels the game with a 9.8% boost to total runs scored due to enhanced conditions.
The Dodgers lineup is extremely talented, but I like the idea of getting Max Muncy and J.D. Martinez into my primary stacks, as the teammates both own barrel rates better than 20% and hard-contact rates higher than 60% against right-handed pitching this season. There should also be some cheaper options available here with Jason Heyward and Miguel Vargas projected to start.
Heyward has been a pleasant surprise this season with a .236 ISO and 52% hard-contact rate against right-handed pitchers in 2023. It’s good to see him playing solid ball again.
It’s no surprise that our top stacks tool currently labels the Dodgers with the best chance to be optimal, while also carrying the most ownership of any stack on the main slate.
