Justin Carlucci walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

If you didn’t look ahead to Thursday and were expecting a full day of MLB afternoon games, you will be disappointed. There are just four entire games on today’s DFS main slate! It doesn’t appear that there will be any weather issues, so let’s dive into some of these stacks.

Chalk Stack- Orioles vs. Tyler Anderson

Anderson has proven to be a pretty good “real-life pitcher” in recent years, but so far in 2023, he’s been objectively miserable. Last season, Anderson rarely gave up hard contact or power and never put runners on base. But this year, he 6.30 xFIP and is walking 10% of batters. Righties are hitting the southpaw to the tune of a .239 ISO, while Anderso is currently sporting an uncharacteristically high-contract rate as well.

Baltimore has a ton of right-handed bats to throw at Anderson. The O’s currently have the slate’s highest projected team total, but it’s not by a considerable margin. According to our top stacks tool, the Orioles own the widest (negative) difference between ownership and chance to be optimal and grade out as the worst overall value on DraftKings. I don’t personally think they’re an awful play, but if you’re looking to be different, look elsewhere.
