Justin Carlucci walks you through the top stacks for the upcoming MLB main slate. Should we eat the chalk? Which team is a good pivot? Where can we find leverage? Find out below!

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play.

In this space, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections available in LineupHQ. Still, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

There may be football to be played, but we have a nice little MLB main slate on tap for Thursday night. Anytime the Braves and Dodgers are both in play, there is a chance for a high-scoring night. Let’s dive in and check it out.

Chalk Stack – Orioles at Hunter Gaddis

Right now, our top stacks and values tool has three stacks that seem to be more popular than the rest of the field – Orioles, Braves, and Dodgers.

According to our tool, Baltimore currently projects to be the highest-owned stack on both sites with the best chance to be optimal. I’m not exactly sure how it’s going to shake out, but I actually think Atlanta could be the chalkiest stack when roster lock rolls around.

Baltimore is in a great spot and is one of my favorite offenses tonight. The O’s will square off against the erratic Hunter Gaddis who is striking out just 7% of lefties and yielding a .205 ISO overall (.250 against RHBs). He doesn’t get barreled too often, but runners get on base at will, so this is screaming full stack.

Gattis is mostly fastball/slider, which is bad news for him, as most of the heart of this Baltimore lineup hits both of those pitches extremely well.

From a value perspective, Jordan Westburg and Heston Kjerstad are really appealing, as both players are currently checking in at sub-10% projected ownership.

The Orioles are also currently grading out as the best value on DraftKings and second on FanDuel.
