MLB DFS Tournament Strategy: Monday, April 1st

MLB DFS tournament play is unlike that of any other sport. Predicting outcomes with precision is difficult, and player variance is near its peak. There are special considerations when constructing lineups in order for you to find success in the long term. Each weekday, our DFS analysts will examine a specific tournament format and help you understand the application of strategy, via concepts such as pitcher pairings, roster construction, stacking, leverage, ownership, variance, and more.

Monday, April 1st

Hey now! Welcome to this rare bullpen call to yours truly for the MLB DFS Tournament strategy article. I’m filling in for Tuttle today, and ready to bring you my take on this 9-game slate.

We want all of our contributors delivering information in which they are subject matter experts. As such, I’ll be talking about today’s slate primarily from the angles I know best: Advanced metrics, and ownership percentages.

I am dusting off some dollars to max enter (150 lineups) a high variance/top heavy GPP on DraftKings this evening, and will be discussing my strategy on entering many lineups in a contest like that. I will be sure to address other fantasy sites along the way, but just know that today’s strategy will be focused around making multiple lineups.

Pitching Texture

It’s going to be a spend down at pitcher kind of night. The expected salary allocation in my early day DraftKings ownership projections is a paltry ~$16,000. This indicates:

A) There are not a lot of high priced pitching options that my opponents will want to invest in.
B) There are a ton of uncertain factors at the pitcher position.
