rotogrinders_expert_21697

Every day when the MLB schedule features four or more games, you can find expert picks for large-field tournament games on FanDuel below. These selections won’t be safe, but will be intended to provide the upside and differentiation needed to build a lineup that can take first place in a large contest. You can expect these picks and analysis to be posted every day by 2 PM Eastern, or 10 AM for early slates.

Wednesday, April 15

STARTING PITCHERS

Lance Lynn, St. Louis Cardinals, $8,700 – Trustworthy arms are hard to come by tonight, so picking a pitcher is a little more difficult than usual. Lynn was outstanding when pitching in Busch Stadium last season (9-4 with a 2.50 ERA and a .230 BAA) and he has handled the Milwaukee Brewers quite well in his career. Lynn was brilliant in his first start (6 IP, 1 ER, 9 KS) and has the big K upside we require in our tournament play.

Brandon Morrow, San Diego Padres, $6,600 – Morrow has always had terrific stuff, injuries and control are the reason he has yet to put it all together. Morrow was terrific in his first start as a Padre (7 IP, 0 ER, 7 Ks and the win) and Petco Park is the best pitchers park in baseball. The Arizona Diamondbacks are not the same hitting team on the road and I think Morrow is in a great spot again tonight. Morrow makes a great roll of the dice in your GPPs.

Other Pitchers to Target – Collin McHugh, Edison Volquez, Taijuan Walker

CATCHER

Miguel Montero, Chicago Cubs, $3,100 – Montero will face RHP Jason Marquis tonight, who happens to be one of the worst pitchers in baseball in my opinion. Montero has big time power versus RHP and he has hit Marquis very well (7-20, .350 BA, .440 OBP, with two doubles, 4 bombs and 10 RBI) in his career.

Other Catchers to Target – Buster Posey, Carlos Ruiz

FIRST BASE

Adrian Gonzalez, Los Angeles Dodgers, $5,000 – Gonzalez is the hottest hitter in Major League baseball with hits in all seven games this season, including four multi-hit games. A-Gon has produced staggering numbers in this seven-game hitting streak – 15 hits (.536 BA, .606 OBP), 10 runs, four doubles, five homers and seven RBIs. Due to his high salary and the fact that everyone seems to be in love with Taijuan Walker’s potential, I expect Gonzalez to be highly under-owned tonight.

Lucas Duda, New York Mets, $3,600 – Duda is starting to heat up with three multi-hit games in his past four. I am not a fan of Jerome Williams and can’t seem to figure out how he keeps getting hitters out with his below average stuff. Duda has as much power as any First Baseman in baseball and he has multi-homer upside.

Other First Basemen to Target – Anthony Rizzo, Chris Davis, Pedro Alvarez

SECOND BASE

Stephen Drew, New York Yankees, $2,700 – To be honest, I am not in love with much at second base tonight. I think it looks like a great night to punt the position and Stephen Drew makes a decent punt/value play. Drew has underrated pop in his bat and he has big game upside.

Other Second Basemen to Target – Jose Altuve, Neil Walker, Daniel Murphy
